recompiling php on a dedicated server
Hi
I am thinking of purchasing a dedicated server from godaddy (yes, I know). Their default php does not include the library I want (ming). So, could I just install ming and recompile php with ming support? It should be possible, right. I have asked this question to godaddy's email support, but they seemed unaware of what I meant.
Thanks,
Mike

I think you got unmanaged server, godaddy wouldn't help you to compile php,you must compile it yourself.

I wouldn't use ming, but if you really want to you can probably figure it out by reading this and making the changes for your environment where necessary...

To start, I'd suggest examining the output of phpinfo() so you don't exclude any features or modules in the current PHP build.

As I see at http://be2.php.net/manual/en/ref.ming.php you do not need recompile shole php. You need build only one php extensions.

That's incorrect as the instructions state:
mkdir <phpdir>/ext/ming
cp php_ext/* <phpdir>/ext/ming
cd <phpdir>
./buildconf
./configure --with-ming <other config options>
Build and install PHP as usual, restart web server if necessary.RACK911 Labs | Penetration Testing | https://www.RACK911Labs.ca

thanks for your replies.
I am going to sign up with a different hosting company that provides ming by default. However godaddy is cheaper, so I might be tempted to try it in the future.
