Hotel Site - Advice Needed

I have been asked to build a web site for a small hotel. The hotel is not open for business yet. I am ok building the site itself but I have never dealt with a live booking system before and am at a bit of a loss as to where to begin. Potential customers need to be able to check room availability and then book online.

Can anyone point me in the right direction ? What system would be used for this? Obviously some sort of database but what type and is this a particularly difficult thing to implement ?

Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks

Sal

There a few companys that have a booking system already developed.
You can just develop the website and have the bookings controlled by another company. That is the easiest method.

There are fees involved.
You can do some research.

here is one company : http://onressystems.com/

hope you get it going.

Hi there,

You may research on those tourism agent sites which do provide the same service.

I would imagine it depends on what kind of booking system the hotel will use internally. Ideally you'll want something that's web ready, as has been suggested in this thread. But if it's not, you'll be stuck pulling data directly from the database of whatever program they intend on using. Which can be tricky, but is very possible with the right knowledge or people.
