It's just that the news media has become bored with the "War on Terrorism" and is looking for a new target. Big business has been in their sights for some time and they finally pulled the trigger. The government likes it because it gives them a reason for another power grab in passing more useless legislation.

The fraud is limited to very few businesses, it's just that the media hype has blown it way out of line.

If you want to see masters of financial corruption, look at the governments books. The only difference is that the congress can pass laws that make anything they do legal.

Gotta love the AOL disks I got excited when they started sending them to us in those spiffy tin cans. Or how about the plastic dvd cases?

They have too much money to throw around if you ask me.

acually it seems like there are so many frauds but then think...count how many of them you have heard of, enron, AOL, Worldcom i mean there really are not to many of them but see they are not telling you that htere are a billion other businesses in the world. Heck go for a drive and count how many diffrent companies you find...barely any of them are fraud.

    Reply to AoL disk:
these stories are great LOL. I wonder how much money they acually make off of those disk they send out...they cost them probly like 3 dollars each to send out....but i wonder how many custmers they get from it.

  20. I have one cylinder of AOL disks which I am contemplating what to do with. Should I sell them back to AOL to make some quick bucks or to use them to train our dog?

I certainly do not hope AOL go bust bcause it will worsen the stock market as if it is not bad enough already.

Still, it is unusual for this number of companies in this relatively short period.

Yes, I do like democracy. The U.S. however, is not a democracy. It's a Representative Republic, meaning we chose those who represent us in government. Unfortunately, those we chose usually end up representing only their own self-interest and over inflated egos. They pass the laws we must live by and exempt themselves from having to abide by them.

If we were a true democracy where each person had a direct voice in how the government was run with a true 'majority rule' I doubt the tax rate would be as high as it is with as much waste in spending.

But then, with the way a lot of people seem today, we might be totally screwed.

I agree. AOL was the worst thing that ever happened to the internet. Their goal was to completely dominate it with their lousy service. They are so desparate their latest CDs have 'Come back to AOL' printed on them.

Friends don't let friends use AOL.

I just hope one day someone comes up with a way of re-writing old disks, then I'll happily accept AOL's disks, at the moment they will continue to hang by threads from my bedroom window (looks great on a sunny morning)

When my sister used to have AOL ( I know, I know) it wasn't too slow (for 56k) but the major problem I saw with it was the fact you had to use their really bad software, you wanna check your e-mail you had to start up the e-mail, ftp, web browsing, media player, instant messenger etc. And it was big clunky software, it was a jack of all trades but a master of none. Every componenet was poor, so you still had to load other software anyway.

And their amazing content that they sold themselves on, it consisted of a couple of photos in a slideshow everyday with a paragraph next to them about the photo, such themes were "stars without makeup", "stars with newborn babies", "stars with...." you get the picture

And the less said about trying to leave the better.

Oh and lastly don't think joining them will stop the flood of disks (14.99/ month seems worth it, at least to give your postman a break) the flood gets a lot worse with about 1-2 a week to get your friend onto aol. (I wouldn't be that crule to my friends, not even for 25!)

A long time ago I thought AOL was simply bad mouthed by little hackers who saw it as the "machine" its only when you use it you realise just how bad it is

Sorry to rant but aol makes me very
