Suggest KVM to mange multiple servers remotely?
We are looking for KVM to manage multiple servers using single KVM.
We want that if server owner want the kvm for its server we add the user remotely and provide him username/password for KVM to access his server. Once he is done we remove his access from KVM.
Can this kvm http://www.kvms.com/products/0SU51068.asp be used to manage multiple servers remotely?
There are more then 12 servers to be managed remotely.
All the operations has to be managed remotely. We don't want datacenter intervention or datacenter guys to plugin and plugout the kvm's for each server.
Please suggest if you have done it or know how it could be done.
Thanks

Looks like it'll do fine, you'll just need a normal KVM switch with 12+ ports and a lot of KVM cables.
I use an Avocent Switchview IP 1020 ( http://www.avocent.com/web/en.nsf/Co...tchViewIP_1020) connected to a 16 port KVM switch, which is then connected to the servers. It's a bit messy with all the KVM cables, but it gets the job done.

@Ilandor: How do you manage user access? Aren't all users able to change the server, which they access?

How many servers can be access at same time using 1020 avocent?
Is it possible to add users and remove users using this kvm? For eg Client1 want to have KMV to his server. I add client1, ip, username and password . Now clien1 can access his server using KVM.
I found http://www.digitalv6.com/ but thats too expensive.
Thanks

tried this.. let me know when you get one of those analog kvm units that locks up and needs the good old reset. we had this setup for about 40 machines way to many problems.. And when you get to the 70 machine mark the kvm-over-ip device is cheaper than all those analog kvms.

Remember that if you want to give each of your dedicated server clients access to KVPoIP, using an IPMI/iLO/DRAC is wise. If you have multiple servers but need only 1-2 users (staff members) to concurrently access then something like Avocent or Raritan KVMoIP switches will do.
Because the issue you will run into with using Avocent or Raritan is that if more clients try to access their server than the KVM concurrent limit, then they would get an error message.

I am not able to understand only onething. Can our support team which is located remotely grant access to specific user for KVM?
For eg we get 8 port KVM switch can 2 clients manage there individual servers?
And when we want we can remove there rights from KVM so it's again avilable for people who want it. Or something like on demand KVM.
Which one will be more economical
IPMI/iLO/DRAC or KVM over IP Switch.
Thanks

I use a 2161DS for this. I personally don't like the IPMI-type cards - buying them in bulk will end up being very expensive, they take more time to configure, and in my experience they're not as reliable.

I use Avocent with SIP cables. Cuts down on the cable mess.

If you are going for the "On demand KVMoIP" go with either Avocent or Raritan. If you are looking to give 24/7 KVM access, then you have to go with IPMI/iLO/DRAC.

I don't know about iLo and IPMI, but from what my client's have said, DRAC blows completely. We have one client who bought the dracs in their 10~ machines and were so annoyed by how bad they were that they paid for a 16 port KVM over IP system to use instead.

Concur that Dell's DRAC do not compare to iLO.
I would think the DRACs are not a hot selling item for Dell else Dell would have made sure they work.
Console server or KVM switch is still the way to go if using Dell servers.
