Plinkd closes - "we don't have the time"

How professional!

Quote:
Hi

We are closing Plinkd down on the 14th September 2007 we will not be
providing hosting after that date.

You need to move your sites from the server by that date otherwise your
data will be lost.

Any outstanding invoices will be canceled.

We just don't have the time to commit to Plinkd.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Gary Reid

It was a rubbish, slow host anyway.

Well, it's a lot better than keep collecting subscription payments and disappearing.

So, I have to agree with those that have posted before me (and will post after) that this notice was quite professional.

Its completely fine. What would you like them to say? Its an honest letter giving customers 1 month notice.

I also think it's very commendable that they've given a fairly decent amount of notice to their clients. Most companies don't offer their clients that luxury & just disappear over night.

Kudos to Plinkd, even though they may not have had the time to run the operation they've done better than most:

1. They've admitted they had a problem & gave up the 'ghost', rather than continuing on for many years with unsatisfied clients

2. 30 days notice is more than sufficient time to find a new provider.

Anywho!

I agree. One months notice should give you enough time to find a new host, and move your files.

At least they give you ample of time to move your site to your new host unlike some hosts who just close down and doesn't give any notice.

That requires time to be handled right as well. If they/he doesn't have it, that's that. If money were a prime objective I fear a sale would have taken place regardless.

1 month notice is plenty to allow customers to find a new host. Let's hope it'll be an uneventful last month of hosting for all involved, and that all customers will receive the notice.

Oh yeah, expect to see quite a few 'hosts' shut down when school starts, they always do

Surprised they did not just sell out, but at least they gave you notice

Sadly it does happen, on the hosts defence it can be amazing how much time one or even a few people have to put in to webhosting to keep the cogs turning. Its 24/7, there are no breaks or 9-5's.

It's where your business plan comes in and why so many veterans constantly drone (sorry) on and on about it.

Its all well and good to be excited about being a new web host bringing your new set of cards to the table but it takes a keen eye on the future to be successful and able to withstand growth, with its variable highs and lows.

Dont blame them for it though, companies come and go, smal, big and massive.

I wont go on and on but a massive music store here in the uk recently closed unexpectedly (FOPP), here one day, closed by 12pm the next... it was a shocker but these things happen in business..... at least you get the chance to clear your things and move on.

Sorry for the rambling, Good Luck
