Need host for small personal website.
Wow, I'm very glad to have come across this forum!
First of all, I am a beginner in the hosting world. I want to build a website using phpnuke as a hobby. I want a host that uses CPanel to make things easy on a beginner like myself. Possibly a host who makes it easy to upgrade just in case I decide to expand later. Any suggestions?

There are so many hosts that technically could fit you. cPanel is kind of the standard type of control panel, etc.
Would $6-10 per month be a reasonable cost?
Some hosts that use cPanel + have given me good service at that cost level are for instance InMotion Hosting... Lunarpages... Hostgator...
You can browse this forum to see what opinions people have.

If you're just starting with your site as it seems to be, please do yourself a favor and don't go to a host offering tons of GB of space and BW, you don't need that now, at this moment with a site just starting almost any host does fit your requeriments, just search for good reputations, uptime and customer service.

Hostican should work for you. They have Cpanel, great uptime (99.99% and I've monitored it!), great support and video tutorials. Don't run away when you see how much resources they give you, I've been with them for months and have had NO problems. Speeds are great, uptime is excellent and support is outstanding. To get 50 dollars off your first year use the promo code: 50off-12 in the promo code box. Hostican also has Fantasico which has loads of useful scripts such as forums included.
But if you decide to go with another webhost, look for 99.9% uptime guarantee, 30 day money back guarantee, email and phone support or email and live chat support and CPanel, but I really think hostican fits you.
Dreamhost may also work for you. Expect some downtime but you can get 97 dollars off by googling them for a promo code. They have about 99.7% uptime, great support, but only via email, and their own control panel. The end cost is $22.70
for the first year.
Of course, those are the only 2 webhosts I've had great experiences with. I've been with both for months and have had no problems.

Are you fond of cPanel/have used it before? If not, since you'll have a bit of learning curve with any control panel, I'd not make a certain control panel too much of a requirement. The quality of the hosting experience has much more to do with the personnel and their abilities than it has to do with the control panel.

I agree. The only thing that is missing from that statement is the definition of "ton". Most sites don't even come close to using 10GB of data transfer. Taking that into account, shared hosting these days offers quite a bit, even in its more "expensive" incarnations. In it's more affordable versions, I think ton is already a "looming" prospect. In the end though, it all goes back to your second statement:

I agree with HostICan but not with the dreamhost suggestion. I'm glad to here that you haven't had any problems with them though.

Excellent points. I know that some providers have phpnuke install scripts included in their cpanel/fantastico management suite.

http://www.hostdisciple.com/category...panels/cpanel/
That site has a list of a few really good cpanel hosts.
The guy who owns that site was an active member here and has helped a lot of people find a good host even me at one time.

As lcdc said, if you haven't used cPanel before, you may want to look into other control panels as well. Most control panels allow you to perform the same tasks but differ slightly in organization. Check out various control panels for yourself and determine which one is easiest for you to use.
If you are just starting off with a new site, you should definitely consider using a host that offers reasonable allocations. As others have said, don't sign up with a host that has 600GB of disk space just because. In most cases there are plenty of restrictions to prevent you from using that kind of space (this applies to bandwidth as well).
Also, in many cases, you will get better service from smaller-medium size companies. I'm sure many WHT users can attest to this.
Good luck with your search
