The most widely used is Joomla, which is a new port of Mambo.

Joomla is pretty easy to use and has many addones, same with mambo. Although Mambo is a bit harder to set up.

If you can elaborate what you want to use the CMS for then might be able to give more info.

I won't sit here & try to convince you on which CMS to use.

The best thing for you to do is to go to opensourcecms.com & test them out. Then you can decide which is best for YOU.

Actually a site like that is really useless. You wont know how a CMS will work for your need until you try to use it for a give purpose and the only way to do that is to install it and see it it fits your needs.

I'll agree with the guys above, if you really want to get a good feel for the CMSs and see what they do for you, install each on your local machine or test server and give them a try.

If you have a bit of spare money, then you shoudl go with subdreamer which is what I use. I tried joomla but it was too complicated so I got subdreamer which was so easy to integrate into my design and there are lot's of plugins for it aswell, which are also very easy to manipulate =)

Hope it's okay to jump into this thread and post a question instead of starting a whole new one with a similar question.

I'm in search of a free or inexpensive CMS. Bottom line is that a monkey should be able to use it ie. no learning curve. Horrible to say, but the people I set up a site for aren't too computer literate and figure that they should be able to update the site themselves.

TIA

It's useless? Interesting. Because I know a lot of people who did it that way [including myself] & chose the best CMSes that were for us.

I'll recommend ExponentCMS (http://www.exponentcms.org/).

It is *very* easy to use and allows you to edit the pages just as you see them in the browser.

Want to see it in action? http://www.paluomens.com
