Just bought a server at ThePlanet

Ok, I just bought a dedicated server at ThePlanet, and I'm pretty much lost. I'm used to using shared hosting, and when I see all this networking, security SSH, etc stuff, I have no idea what to do. All I want to do is get mysql and php on the server, upload my files and database and then open the site. I don't even know what NS server to set my domains in, or any of this stuff. Any help?

You need a management company to manage it for you probably, if you are that unaware with a server.

Do you have a control panel? cPanel? DirectAdmin? Plesk?

I will help you here (since I can't request you to PM me / IM me, etc) with any general problems you have. * Do not share any of your server login info here *.

What you should do? Hire a sys admin to set everything up, secure the box and also keep it updated. Otherwise I see trouble on the horizon, real soon.

Yes, it had cpanel. I can learn stuff pretty fast, so all I need is a few websites that explain how to manage a dedicated server and im good.

I would suggest you go with 3rd management, such as PSM.

I agree. It seems that you really have no idea what you're getting into, so you'll definitely need to hire a server management company before your server gets hacked or exploited, etc.

The Planet offers managed hosting, why not check what they offer since your box is there?

They are expensive and I bet you will regret your decision to have anything to do with the planet real soon.
