About Lunarpages.com

I saw they have a $7 web hosting package. From everyone's experience, how is this company's service? Do they oversell? I will be using it as a blog, personal web site, and access database(do they support it?) thanks for the inputs

How much bandwidth and Disk space you will need? In which environment would you like to host Linux or windows?

Welcome to WHT
yes they do oversell by a huge margin but you should not worry about it unless you plan to use everything they offer.
How much storage and transfer you need ?

I wanted to go with lunarpages but i heard as soon as your sites gets a nice amount of traffic they force you to move to their dedicated server :| so i'll go with Hostgator. Because its much faster and you dont have to pay yearly, so paying only monthly is a big advantage and there is no setup fee. I suggest you should go with them.

Well Lunarpages is one of the most popular web hosts and you can see both positive and negative reviews about them. I think that they are good we bhost in general. The only think I don't like with most shared web hosts is that they try to impress newbiew customers by offering them huge numbers of space and bandwidth.

I've got this from the SMF Forum about Lunarpages
Quote:
I'd stay away from them, especially if you're expecting your forum to do any sort of growing. I'm speaking from personal experience...they are a PITA to deal with if you "exceed" resources on their shared servers (their resource allocation is minuscule).

so which web hosting won't have the problem of "overselling"? or is it shared hosting always like that?

If you go with any of the major shared hosts it will be like this. But as ImageLeet said, this shouldn't be something to worry about. Research the host and see what people are saying, that's probably the most important.

I am scared of what I heard from SMF's Community Forum, Lunarpages was my first choices, notice that; WAS.
Now, I'm thinking about hostgator after a quality live chat inquiry

I would stay away from hosts that have plans that are too good to be true. Hosting a new forum takes less than 50mb included the database. Hosting a dynamic site on an webhost that offers huge disk space/transfer is a risk.

Well the reviews are both positive and both negative on almost all the big hosts. Anybody saying here "go there" or "don't go there" it's just expressing their opinions which might not have a good foundation.

What you need to do is to research a bit more and then keep your fingers crossed and choose. If it's bad just get your money back and go someplace else.

If I give you my opinion I'll be a bit biased since I do work for Lunarpages, but check what you really need in terms of features and what will fit best for what you are planning to do.

Another thing to consider is that all web hosts will have their good and bad reviews as not one can please everyone (so don't let one or two bad reviews scare you away or you won't be able to find anything). Most web hosts have some sort of money back guarantee or a trial account where you can test out their services before taking on a full commitment.
