windows hosting
Hi All,
Please suggest a good windows host A client of mine needs around 500MB Web Space with .NET 2.0 and SQL Server 2000 or above and Crystal Reports. They are a travel company and need to run their travel related software on it.
The only extra thing they need is that They need port 20002 to be opened as their software would use it to connect to the Amadeus Host. The Data is exchanged in XML format and this port will only be used to send requests to Amadeus Host and Receive Response from there. Usually a connection lasts for about a minute with Amadeus Host.
Please help me find a good host for them
Thanks All !!!

It sounds like just about any Windows host should be able to meet your requirements. The only one I can recommend is CartikaHosting, though I don't know if they leave ports like that open or not. You could ask them though.
Good luck with your search.

Hi Brandon - Thanks for your comments.
Generally speaking - if an application legitimately requires connections on a non-standard port, we can typically allow that scenario as long as we can put some safeguards around it (i.e. restricting the connection only to authorized IP's that the data is actually going to, etc.).
Otherwise, if the risk is to great (determined on a case-by-case) - then we would potentially suggest a dedicated environment.

No - not at this time. However, customers are free to install it on a VDC/dedicated server provided they have proper licensing for the product.

I'll have to disagree with you here, most hosts do not support Crystal Reports, this is usually something you'll need to install yourself on a dedicated/vps environment.

Only restriction is if you use two databases then you cannot see the SQL generated by crystal reports.
formatting of data will be lost, but crystal report will try to maintain as much formatting as it can.
but i doubt whether most of the comapanies support it.

I agree... crystal report is rare to find available with hosting package.
Go for windows 2003 VPS server. I will recommend serverintellect for this.
