I am looking for a host for Microsoft OneNote2007
I was told by my hoster that It won't work on a regular server, so now I have no choice but to try to find hosting for it. All MS OneNote 2007 is, is a program which allows you to flexibly write notes, use pictures, video and audio in a neat little package. It has the feature to use a server to automatically collaborate and sync with another person who is using Microsoft OneNote 2007
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/on...686341033.aspx
that is the demo for the program.
So anyone have any ideas? I think what the program supports is sharepoint sites (if you didn't notice, I am a complete n00b at this stuff).

if you get a dedicated server or a vps, you can install sharepoint and install onenote on it.
I do not think you need active directory for sharepoint

Yeah that is definitely a good idea, thanks!
Um do you, or anyone else think that this could run MS Office 2007?
I don't know, I heard good things about them, but at the same time, I always try to get in touch with them with online chat at their hours, and their either never their, or there was this 1 time I asked a question, and they didn't even know the answer. But yeah if you could just tell me what you think, they are like 5.99 or 6.99, I mean I don't need much to run it, and since I had heard good things, I thought I might check them out or something.

That's correct, AD is not required.
Windows SharePoint 2.0 (aka 2003) can use Local NT accounts or Active Directory.
Windows SharePoint 3.0 (aka 2007) Can use all the above plus uses a new provider model that lets you write a connector to anywhere for authentication / authorization.

Well the main thing that makes me angry, is all I am looking for, is OneNote to just have compatibility with regular websites, but it doesn't. I pay about 10 bucks a month for very good hosting, and I would probably have to pay something around 10 bucks a month, JUST for Microsoft OneNote
But, since OneNote isn't compatible with anything else, that's what I have to do.
When I say Office 2007, I just mean, how sharepoint is compatible with Office 2007, including OneNote.
Yeah I can afford for it to go down, I mean I probably want it up at least 80-90% of the time, but anything beyond that would probably just be annoying.
The other thing, for the moment, I would only be sharing it with one person. So you can see how I want to keep the budget as low as possible.
I don't know though. If you could give some more suggestions, that would be great, but I honestly am thinking about just forgetting about it all together, I really wish OneNote just had regular compatibility, and just could sync.

Hello,
As I'm sure you've found out, the Microsoft Office 2007 products are really meant to work with Windows Sharepoint Services version 3.0. While WSS 3 is a free product, hosting companies still charge for it because it takes a good deal of system resources to run, it's like running a totally seperate web site.
While this is not a "good" solution, you could just FTP the OneNote files to your hosting account and have the person you are sharing with download them and upload when changes are made. It will end up being difficult to sync, but depending on how often things are updated and by whom, it may work out. Definitely not the greatest plan in the world though.

Also, it should be noted that OneNote has additional functionality when combined with WSS that makes sure that all the people sharing the notebook knows that someone else is currently editing it, thus avoiding situations where information could be overwritten accidentally.
