Web developer looking for reliable cPanel hosting

Here's the deal, up until now I have had a dedicated cPanel/WHM server in my hands, so I have been able to hook myself up with an account that has whatever I need. Unfortunately, this wont be available to me anymore, so I need to find a real host . So here's what I'm looking for:

1. cPanel server that will allow me to basically move my entire account over from another cPanel server

2. reliable host who has been around 3+ years. I have done the fly by night web hosts before, and don't want to gamble again. Also should have great up-time and good response times. I don't need a server with 5000 accounts jammed on it.

3. PHP5 w/mySQL kept fairly up to date as I am a web developer.

4. at least 1gb/10gb (storage/transfer), but more would be better

5. at least 10 (more or unlimited better) add-on and parked domains allowed. I wont be reselling, but I have several of my own web projects w/domains and I am adding new ones occasionally. These don't cost the host anything, so I don't know why I shouldn't have unlim.

6. unlimited or large cap on things that don't cost the host - email, forwarders, subdomains, databases etc. etc. also the basics like web stats etc.

7. dedicated IP is not nec. but would be nice

8. HOST MUST PERFORM DAILY/WEEKLY/MONTHLY BACKUPS!!!!!!!!!

I think that about covers it. Oh yeah, I am hoping to get it all for <10$ month. Asking for too much?

Thanks
-Josh

You should be able to find a host with those requirements, they are all resonable. Have you tried looking at the web hosting offers by providers? Check them out.

Yeah I have looked through them some. It is hard for me to know who is really reliable and offers quality service, which is why I am hoping for a good rec. I have played the hosting game before, and have ended up with some real headaches from companies who seemed great at the start. Things like oops your site is gone and the backups weren't working! oops. Your fault.

Well there are a lot out there that fit your requirements. Also your budget is pretty decent for what you ask for.

Also ask the host all those questions as there might be differences when you get the account from what they said they offer you on their website.

Why not ask your provider where you got your dedicated server from if they do shared unless, you had a bad experience with them? Have you tried that?

They are good. Very good actually. Liquid Web. I would rec them to anyone, but their plans are a bit pricey.

No one has any recs? I know I can go and browse all the providers. I have done that, but it's so hard to tell from their ads who actually offers a good service.

Josh,

Your requirements certainly aren't all that farfetched
I'd check out synhosting.com, they might fit your needs.

Finding backups is not easy. Some people charge that just for a monthly backup.

I don't think the years would matter really. But if you want something with these kinds of requirments its very slim man.

But i have to agree with Frimon86

Hi Josh

What's your budget for this? do you already have a shortlist of potential hosts for your site? If not, I suggest you to start one, with 5-6 hosts that fit your needs and then research about them here.

If I'm understanding right you're looking at having the ability to make use of the cPanel transfer tool? Well this is only available to root and not any other account. But most hosts will move your account for you anyways so hopefully it should not be an issue.

Reality is that backups can fail, and no host will guarantee data availability (in the price range you're talking about anyway). Maintain your own set of verified backups if this is of critical importance to you.

Besides, great host today doesn't guarantee great host tomorrow. A change of ownership is often all that's needed for a complete transformation of the service and finding yourself a "refugee". Your own backups will give you a good sense of control over your destiny, even in those circumstances.

Increase your budget and go with a reseller account at somewhere like BlueWho.com.

Selling hosting to your web development clients should be a standard part of your sales pitch, much faster and easier for everybody involved if you're deploying on your "own" system, you can provide much better support. You'll easily make back the extra expense and profit on top.

Remember to make sure your host allows SSH without jumping through hoops!

your requirements are neat, make a list of the hosts then do some research here. Send them some presale questions it will really help you determine service coming your way

No you're not asking for too much Actually your budget and requirements are excellent and any host should be able to accommodate you no problem. Have you taken a look in the offers section > shared hosting offers?

Thanks for the responses guys. I have taken a look at the offers section. Both of the stickied offers look really great. There are just so many it is hard for me to know who is actually going to offer me good service.

Re: moving my account over.
yeah as long as they can do it for me, that is fine.

Re: backups
I see no reason why backups shouldn't be available. this is a standard feature w/cPanel/WHM. The situation I was in before, I had backups but they were about a month old. My host specifically advertised that they maintained daily/weekly/monthly backups. Unfortunatelly when I needed them there were no daily or weekly. Was a real pain. Also, the reason I needed them was because their server blew up.
