How is this done in CSS?

When you resize the browser window the content automatically adjusts itself to include the columns, or move them down.

A combination of a fixed outer container (or body) width; columns in addition to the first right column will defined in css as "float:left;".

Yep! I think mwtkins has it. That was a neat design too. I like how creative people can get with their search boxes.
