Can you type without looking?

I can type nice and fast but for some reason I've never been able to type without looking. How do people learn that?

I have a friend who can type without looking. I am jealous!

Does it help to have a certain type of keyboard? I never use the wrist rest that you can use with some keyboards... my hands are in the air when I type. If I typed without looking... do you have to place and rest your wrists down on the edge of the keyboard?

Who here can type without looking? I am terrible at it!

Just make sure you type a lot, way too much than actually good for you and you'll learn. I've really started blind typing when my business in webdesign got more succesful which left me typing more code, emails etc.

I do bust myself occasionally looking at the keyboard once before typing, just to know where my hands are at the moment...

I never look at the keyboard at all, after a few years of typing it just happens I guess. Your brain remembers where the keys are at and if your hand is properly positioned, then you have no need to look.

I don't think it matters on the keyboard, you should be able to type without looking on any keyboard but different shapes of keyboards can take a few minutes to adjust to.

Heh, I even (sadly) know what are the characters around each letter, so pretty much know the layout by heart

I can do it, very well actually. Sometimes if a keyboard has strange key sizes it can be hard to adjust and will have you looking down on the keyboard a lot.

Absolutely no problem. It is, of course, utter gibberish and unreadable.

Tried a few times, and just can't get the hang of it for any length of time. Some words not a problem, but over all I still need to look. (typed the above sentence without looking and had about 4 mistakes).

I don't look at the keyboard when I type ever.. I used to, but after a few years of typing my fingers just know where to be for each key.

I type without looking at ~120 Words Per Minute (WPM).

I was up to 60 WPM after 4 hours of Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing (or whatever it is.)

I have to admit that I learned how to type without looking at the keyboard as a younglin' hacking away in the dark. My parents wouldn't let me keep the lights on after a certain hour growing up, but I managed to get away with just the faint green glow of the terminal.

I can sit and watch a hockey game and type on the computer without even looking at the keyboard or the monitor. The joys of not missing any plays!

I took typing in High School in 1966. Keyboards are keyboards.

I've been able to type without looking for years and years now, and I'm only 19. Heh.

You just gotta get in the habit of not looking. Besides, if you always look that's just a waste of time.
