They compensate by making it rather expensive to buy

Car looks good, a bit expensive but in a few years you might save up that much on gas

I need that car! I spend 22 gallons every week for 500 miles and it costs me $80 per week, its way too expensive for what I earn. Comes out to 16 cents per mile!!!!!!!!!

But its way too expensive for me. I dont know why someone comes with such economical concepts and makes the price so out of range that only rich people can afford it, but that doesn't make sense because its us middle class which has to worry about the gas prices not the upper class.

They'll come down in price eventually. I don't think Electric cars are the "complete" future, but I do think they're a step in the right direction.

Imagine the torque on that man. Would be even greater if it were a all-whee drive. Can you feel the Gs!!!

Charge At Home or On the Road

Plug your Tesla Roadster into the at-home charging unit, and you’ll be fully charged in under four hours. But we consider this a “worst case” for someone starting with a completely dead battery. Even after a 100-mile trip, you can be completely charged in under two hours.* And should you need to charge on the road, packed away in the trunk is an optional mobile-charging kit that lets you charge from standard electrical outlets while away from home.
On the FAQ Page:

Quote:
Can the Tesla Roadster use Solar Power? Yes. The Tesla Roadster can be recharged using solar energy. If you would like to use solar energy at your home, we can help arrange installation through one of our partners, including SolarCity.

That's one of the coolest cars I've ever seen..

.. and its electric? what.

If I had £50k to spend.. and they made a right hand drive model, It'd be perfect for (relatively) local travel.. shame you cant just carry a second battery and replace it if you run out of juice..

That's like carrying a second gas tank with you, wouldn't really make sense. If you can let it recharge itself with solar energy, that would already help quite a lot I guess (although I don't think it'll be able to charge itself enough to keep driving indefinitely). It's a matter of building charging stations - if these cars sell well, there will be a market for that, so people will start building them.

It's not entirely unthinkable that governments will help finance cars like these. It would probably be good if they'd also make a much slower version - a car that goes this fast isn't really a typical every-day car. If they'd make a slower one, it would probably cost less than 50% of what this car costs.

thats true I guess.. they say a lower cost £25k model is in the works for those who don't require an 135mph electric car.

Problem is, even with charging stations, it takes 2 hours..

Can anyone guess where the design is inspired from?
