On a somewhat unrelated note isn't it cute that google used youtube to post that video on that page? Can't they use google video?!

(Yes, I know it was to probably get more attention)

I don't know, it was really spooky being able to just "walk" around my place in Miami, and take a virtual walk over to NAP, almost just like the one I normally take, but in the middle of the road instead of the sidewalk. At least they could did not turn into my garage!

Where have you been?

Google bought youtube back in Oct for $1.65 billion.

If I paid
$1.65 billion for something I would post my videos on it too.

The computer science department of our university came up with a 3D model of our campus. It took 3 years and, apparently, it could have been of commercial value if applied to online maps. Users would had been able to walk down the streets and go online shopping.

With Street View, Google had come with their own versions, though it isn't 3D.

Wow, that's truly awesome!

One thing I can't figure out: was that done from satellite, or from ground-based cameras?

Oops! Slipped my mind with all of the acquisitions they've been making. I couldn't recall whether it was Google or CBS with all of the network content I've been seeing on it lately.

I now remember that it was just a deal between the two entities.

Ground based cameras mounted onto vans that travel around the streets
