GoDaddy review after 1 year of hosting

Length of service: One year

Account: Shared hosting, Deluxe and Premium

My usage: Over 1 GB disk space used, 30 GB data transfer each month, 16,000 visitors each month.

Pros:

1. My wait time to talk with someone from customer service or tech support was never longer than a few minutes.
2. I like their web-based email.
3. Seems to be an okay host for static HTML content.
4. Okay as a domain registrar.

Cons:

1. They way oversell their servers.
2. Their tech support guys make up a lot of B.S. that half the time doesn't seem to make sense or even seem relevant to the problem.
3. Their account control panel is unique to only them and will take some trips to the knowledge base to learn how to use.
4. Database queries take FOREVER! I can't stand using my own Wordpress site.
5. Email support is useless. They basically copy and paste their site's FAQs back to you.
6. They limit the simultaneous connections to your site to 100 with the Deluxe plan or 150 with the Premium plan (according to tech guy, see #2), which explains my blog's frequently unresponsive RSS feed.
7. Frequent request time outs when navigating from one page to another.
8. Hoping to boost performance, they transfered my account to a different server at my request, but site performance was still the same. I can only assume that each of their servers experiences the same slugish problems.

Summary: Stay way from GoDaddy! Most other reports of GoDaddy on this forum recommend the same thing. It's not worth your money when you can get something that's much more reliable elsewhere for the same price. GoDaddy frustrates me to no end.

My domain: timschmoyer.com

Thanks for the review. I'm sure it will be appreciated by the users out there considering GoDaddy.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with them, I hope you have found the quality of web hosting your site deserves.

I am just surprised you stayed with them for a year. Was it a deal where you buy a domain get a year free?

No, it's just that I hate transferring all my data, exporting and importing the databases, setting all the file permissions, fixing all the bugs and errors... it's just a pain in the neck. And I'd have to do it for all four of the active sites on my account. I'm getting ready to switch to a VPS with either FutureHosting.biz or KnownHost.com so I have plenty of room to expand and hopefully avoid changing again for a long time.

Sorry to hear about your experience with GoDaddy. Hopefully you have a better time with your next host.

I haven't read up on FutureHosting, but I have read a lot of great stuff on KnownHost.

Hope you have a good experience with whichever you choose.

Hi rockinyp,

Are talking about the Windows hosting or Linux hosting? I'm asking because I was considering using their Windows shared plan.

Sorry, I should've specified. I'm using their Linux hosting. I don't see how it would make much of a difference, though, considering that half their problem is that they don't know how to fix problems.

Yeah, I will. I'm kinda anticipating a rough time getting a refund for the rest of my hosting since I paid annually. Hopefully they'll give it to me.

That's one of the main concerns that you have to face when you go with custom control panels. In the future if you are moving hosts I would recommend going with a popular control panel such cPanel, which have the option of shameless transfers between cPanel hosts.

Man, it's horrible. I plan to spend this Saturday making the switch. It'll be a pain, but hopefully this is the last time I have to do it.
