I currently have ownership of a dedicated server. My site is too much for a paid account, but it does not use the dedicated server to its full ability; I don't want to pay for what I am not using.
I am looking for a trustworthy person willing to share a server with a small, tasteful, adult site.
Half a dedicated server-
150GB quality (exodus/C&W) bandwidth (multihomed with otehrs). more if you pay for it
Your own nameserver
as many MySql DBs as you want
as many Mail accounts as you want
5 IPs, and more if you pay for them
all the other usual stuff that comes with a server
any questions, post or PM me.
$125 a month for the server is rather peculiar because I can get twice the specs you listed for that. Can you show where you are getting this server cause as far as I can tell, you are looking for someone to pay the full cost of the server for only half the specs.
Yes, Derek, you could probably get twice the bandwidth for that price. Most likely it would be Cogent bandwidth or located at a facility with poor support and distant techs. It is also likely that you would not use the full 300GB of transfer; in the end you would be paying for something that you don't need.
125 per month is exactly half the cost of the server; I pay the same amount.
Both parties would have root access to the server, and tech support is availble 24 hours a day by phone, email ICQ and AIM. The NOC is also staffed 24/7 so if something were to go wrong, it would be fixed promptly.
If my site were to incurr bandwidth overage charges, I would pay these charges. If the partner's site incurred overage charges, I am not responsible for their payment.
If one of us wishes to sell a portion of our space, then looking after the customers would be the responsiblity of whichever party was doing the selling.
Each of us would have equal access to the server and be free to do with our portion of it as we please.
Communication would be essential; It's nice to know what the other has planned, and It would be good to come to a general concensus about when upgrades would be made and by whom. It would also be good to keep each other updated on what is being installed and if any settings are changed.
If partner B were to go on vacation, or vocation as ckpeter put it, I would not have a problem with keeping an extra eye on the server, or taking care of customers (if he/she decides to sell space)
I got the server through www.digitalprinceton.net, and it is located at Exodus in Jersey City. It was originally located at digitalprinceton's own datacentre, but it was moved so renovations could take place.
Well, it sounds like you have thought out your plan well. You just need a trustworthy partner to take the offer up.
The only thing that is concerning is root access. It isn't something that's can be "equally accessible" as you put it. For example, if somehow the server got hacked, who is going to take responsibility for it? It could become a blame game.
I would suggest that you keep root access to yourself, and just provide help/installation when you partner needs it. Of course, if you have better plan, then that's great. Otherwise, root access is not something that's can be taken lightly of.
Reading over my last few replies I notice that I come across looking somewhat overbearing.
I'll rephrase a bit.
If you are willing to pay $125 for half of a dedicated server, or are interested in any way post here or contact me.
I would not be profiting off your payments, and you are free to do what you please with your half, provided that it is legal. The server would be treated as "ours" and not MINE. (but your half would be YOURS)
If you are interested, let me know. We can then work out the final details.
I am anxious to get a partner as it is killing me to pay the rent and have over half the server there unused.
