Simple SCSI or SATA on Raid 1
Which should give better performance?
Single 15k RPM SCSI Drive (NO Raid)?
Or 2 SATA Drives (LT drives - 7200RPM i think) on hardware Raid 1?

Definately the SCSI and by a long way. It's faster than SATA and Raid 1 will have some very slight overheads too, causing a (almost unnoticeable) decrease in performance as well.

Raptor or SAS, because of many reasons.

15k RPM SCSI HD is faster than RAID1 7200RPM SATA HDDs, but RAID1will protect your HDDs from failure. I think these options would be better:
1. Single 73GB 15k SCSI and 80GB SATA for backup.
2. RAID1 73GB 10k Raptor SATA HDD and use other backup method.
Just my opinion!

Raid 1 will never outperform a single drive configuration, whether it is SCSI or SATA.
That being said, you don't want "Host Raid" either.
There are many things to be taken into account here and to many differentiations between the optoins.

In this case, the SCSI.
RAID-1 WILL outperform a single-drive configuration in reads, if your controller supports it. If it supports it, it reads one block from one drive and another block from the other drive at the same time. Never in writes, though.

Chris is right, but I was thinking "Overall" performance for Raid 1.
And that is "ONLY" in regards to Hardware Raid. Most Host Raid cards won't even come close in RAID 1 to what the same drive would do on it's own.
