Offer quality content, submit articles to good article sites, use social networks (digg, myspace...), offer free content... in 2 words: create value.

I agree. I once helped a hosting customer with his site and all it was made of was affiliate banners. No joke! he had 15-20 banners centered all the way down the page, and nothing else.

He asked me why he wasn't making any money.
That's a perfect exabple of what not to do.

Unique/quality content, and you'd be surprised what good links to other sites can do for you. Good Luck!

Agreed with the quality content. Check out some of the other forums (i.e. digital point) they usually have tons of people looking to exchange links. Might be also worth trying stumbleupon.com, I'd had a 2 week old site get 1000's of uniques a day and as a result get various new links from visitors on their own sites.

Just to elaborate on what is considered to be quality content. Sounds like a very unclear thing. Actually, quality content means intriguing, attractive content (which sometimes is not actual quality...)

Yeah there's no magic bullet here. it takes a bit of SEO knowledge to get something to really start placing well in search engines.

fresh interesting data is the best.

Thank u all for your valuable tips.
By optimizing content, Article submission and directory submission are some typical techniques of SEO.
Are there any other ways for getting backlinks?

I constantly get email from other sites wanting to 'trade links' but I don't do it because linking with a lower rated site can hurt your own rank.

But you might want to search for some good sites and contact the owners. Ask them if they'd like to trade links. I can tell you from experience it's a common thing.

I disagree on that point.

Whenever I link with a lower rated site, I bargain for better placement on their site than I give their link and I sometimes even specify the exact text I want my link from.

For example, I'll bury their link inside page 2 of my links directory and link to them using their site name.

But on their site, I'll have them link to me on the frontpage using some keyword relevant text.

I do that not because I want to preserve my google juice, but because I want the link trade to be even in terms of # of their visitors I receive versus # of visitors I send to them.

I could careless what google thinks of our deal.

A reasonable strategy.

Submit to article and directories. Use social bookmarking web sites, put links to your web sites in your forum signatures, etc.

Submit to Digg and other social bookmarking sites.

If your site contains quality posts, then traffic would come.

Unfortunately, strongly dugg story normally doesn't equal high-quality one.
Indeed, social networks are far more useful to build a strong reputation first and right after that strive for your stories to be appreciated by the other fellow diggers
