Hi,
Its been 3 great months with Exportal, but suddenly yesterday my server was taken offline, without ANY prior warning, and the reason given was:
Quote:
I got info from the DC that your server was illegaly trying to use all IPs in the range 217.xxx.xxx.0/24.
This has happaned twice today.
The server has been taken offline.
I will request a KVM and you will remove the IPs from the server.
|
I had no clue about the issue, it was most likely due to some virus/trojan that was detected on the (windows) server a day back. However, all I asked them was an hour time so I could backup my stuff and then they could do whatever they wanted, and they agreed for it, but its been 2 days now and they WON'T get the server up.
Dinek, the guy I've been in touch with since I bought the server, just doesn't respond to my mails.
I'm not sure what to do now. Should I contact NetDirekt directly?
Thanks

Contacting NetDirekt directly probably won't help.
No reasonable DC will help the customer of their customer, as it may result in loss of privacy for their own customer.

Ah!
Dinek, the main (and probably the only) guy at exportal, isn't responding. Its been 2 days and I've suffered good losses already.
So what do I do now?

Off course they will not put the machine back online. When you are using those IP's that means that all the other servers in that subnet (Which can be thousands) are unreachable because you are hijacting their IP's.
Try contacting Dinek using their Ticket system. Might work better than email (Mail might get filtered out somehow).

But don't they give you any warning before taking the server offline?
Emailing at info@exportal.pl automatically creates a new ticket, but none of the several tickets have been answered. Dinek has been really helpful so far, but not anymore, not sure why!!

Would you give a customer of yours a warning first, while thousands of your other customers are offline because of him?
Such thing as abusing IP's breaks down half their network. They would prefer losing you as a customer than having one minute more downtime that way. And I can't really disagree with them on that...

So what now, I don't even have the right to take 100mb of backup in 30-60 mins due to a damn virus or whatever that caused it? :-(

The problem here is that Dinek is not answering. That is one of the disadvantages of going with a reseller..this is the risk that is involved.
There's not much to do but wait for a reply from Dinek. And make proper offsite backups in the future

Indeed, Dino does take time to reply especially when you are in trouble. But when you are able to get hold of him, he'll make it happen for you.

Update: Dinek replied and seems concerned. Hope he stays in touch and we find a solution out of this.

Hi Dougy,
Yes, he's in touch with me now, but waiting for "KVM connection" since last few hours I believe.

Dinek is a good guy, i am sure he will be able to help you out with that problem.
Ask them to put you in a vlan with a fixed subnet, that way it is impossible for your server to 'kidnap' any other IPs from that subnet.
