GoDaddy is TERRIBLE! I am so infuriated right now t is unbelievable!!!!!!
I have MANY domains registered at godaddy for the past several years now. A few days ago I received an email from them that said the contact info under my WHOIS is not valid or not up-to-date. So I immediately updated my WHOIS and responded to that notice.
ALL info under my WHOIS was 100% valid... therefore I should have never received that notice in the first place. But I went ahead and updated my WHOIS with another address anyway to ENSURE they see it as up-to-date. EVERYTHING is and has always been valid under my WHOIS.
But a couple of days ago I find out that godaddy decided to take down my entire domain DOWN and therefore my business has been completely down for almost two days now!!!
I called godaddy and spoke to the supervisor. He saw and AGREED that my WHOIS was valid and up-to-date and that godaddy was in ERROR but then tells me that the reason my domain was taken down is because I never responded to the notice they sent me just 5 short days ago.
But I DID respond!!!!!!! What a disgusting policy.. they ONLY give you 5 days before cancelling your domain... are you kidding me!!!!!
What an infuriating and absurd policy godaddy has. I'll be transferring ALL of my domains away from godaddy after this.
They took my ENTIRE business down WRONGFULLY and in ERROR and they don't give a damn about bringing it back online in a timely manner. It is still down and he tells me I just have to sit and wait.
It was EXTREMELY important my business be up right now... this is severely affecting and damaging my business right now. My business NEEDED to be up right now.
This is just infuriating!!!!
You would THINK since they made an ERROR and my WHOIS was VALID in the first place... that they would correct this right away and bring my business back online but they won't!!!! The supervisor even agreed that godaddy was in ERROR.

I just called godaddy again. They tell me that it might take them DAYS to get my domain back online even though THEY made an error in the first place and acknowledge that my WHOIS was indeed ALWAYS valid and up-to-date.
They took my entire business down and it's been down for TWO days now and they tell me it might take them few more days to bring it back online.
I'm taking ALL my domains away from godaddy after this. It's just absurd!!!
The LEAST they could do is bring my domain back online IMMEDIATELY!!!!
I am soooo angry right now it's unbelievable.
How can godaddy send a notice to somebody and only give them 5 days to respond before shutting down someone's business???? Especially over something so little as an address that's not up-to-date under somebody's WHOIS!!!!
Especially when it was valid in the first place and they made an error.

I just spoke to the supervisor again... he finally put my domain back online... but I still have to wait 24 hours for it to come back up.
But at least he re-activated my domain. I can't risk this happening again... I'm moving my domains away from godaddy asap after this.
He told me he doesn't understand why godaddy sent me the invalid whois notice in the first place. Thanks a lot... godaddy.

That sure is a lot of capitalized words.
Seriously though, at least you did get the domain re-activated again. I can imagine the stress you went through. I know I'd have been irate.

Sorry for the rant... but they wrongfully took my domain down in the first place and have the power and ability to bring it back up immediately but didn't care to when they were in error in the first place. Then they tell me I have to sit and wait possibly for days to get my business back online. It's still down right now and I have to wait 24 more hours for it to come back.
I don't see how a registrar could just go and cancel somebody's domain wrongfully like this. I don't feel safe with godaddy anymore.
Them cancelling my domain is not even what got me so angry... it's that when I called them they had a snotty attitude and wouldn't help me get the domain back up and told me I'd have to wait and there's nothing else they were willing to do for me.
That they have and I quote: "4 million customers".. and "issues are dealt with in the order received and I have to wait my turn".

Unfortunately that's what happens when you deal with large companies such as godaddy, they cannot keep everyone happy and tend to be slow in responding.

If you have several domains, it could be expensive to transfer them out simply over this speed bump. Yes, it's very annoying to have your site down just when it needs to be very up...but it happens and you'll live.

Normally you receive those non-valid whois records emails from GoDaddy because somebody has complained to them that it was invalid. 5 days is a bit short notice though. I thought they gave you 3 weeks to correct invalid whois before taking the domain down.

They're still playing Internet cop and seizing domains? They have no common sense. I had the same type of thing happen last year. Except the domain was the nameserver for about 600 websites. And had been for years. Luckily I got it back in a few hours.

this is very routine
Guys, this is very routine of them. *again* if your domain is even slightly important, you are best advised to go with a registrar that doesn't take the law into it's own hands and takes out domains for some arbitrary reason.

There's no requirement for a registrar to give the registrant and/or contacts 3 weeks to correct invalid WHOIS.

I'm transferring all of my domains to ENOM today. I've never had such problems at ENOM.
I don't like how godaddy just took my entire business down and shut down my domain... that was scary.
Imagine if they did that to a domain that holds nameservers for hundreds of customers... all those customers websites would have been down for two+ days.
And what if somebody had been on a week long vacation... godaddy only gives you 5 days to update your whois info before cancelling your domain. That is ridiculous.

After reading the whole lot, I'm starting to get worried too. I think I might pull all my main domains out of Godaddy at the next expiration date.

Nothing godaddy does surprises me anymore. Parsons probably needed some good crime fighting stats for an upcoming blog entry. Or their splash page (squatter) income is getting low.

I was referring to GoDaddy policy from personal experience, but I see they must have changed their ToS...
