How to move transfer mySQL databases to new server?

Hi,

I managed to copy one of my websites onto my new VPS using "Copy an account from another server" in WHM, however, it did not copy the mySQL database.

Is this normal?

What is the best way to move a mySQL database?

If you have SSH access do this

mysqldump -u username -p --databases mydatabase > mydatabase.sql

to backup and

mysql -u userame -p database < dump_file

To restore it.

Or via phpmyadmin, simply export the database and then import it again via phpmyadmin. Might not work depending on the database size but it is easy to do

To answer the first part of the OP's post: no, that is not normal, however the WHM transfer process has lots of problems with it.

yes its normal as cPanel bakup utility can be configured to take backups including MySql but its not always the case.
you can always export database from phpmyadmin on old host and import it from phpmyadmin on new host

I can vouch for moving database with PhpMyAdmin.

Worked flawlessly when I moved website from one server to another with different versions of MySQL at my webhost.

Mysql incompatiblity occurs only when restoring from a higher version to a lower one but vice-verca it works without any flaws.
