In need for web hosting.

Hey Guys, currently I have a VPS that is hosting a very large site. Recently, I have decided to move to a outsourced web hoster for one particular site. Anyways, I am looking for a web hoster that is 100% (theoretically) up and does daily outsourced backups.

Now, I have been looking around, and I feel that 1&1 has the cheapest price for what I need. Basically I can get 10GB and 300GB for 3 bucks a month, and I know that they are a reputable and consistent web hosting company. If anyone has a suggestion in the same category or near it that would be great. I am going to pay yearly.

The website is a PHP Nuke site alongside with a Gallery 2 gallery. It would be even better if the web hoster has cpanel, I could just do a transfer.

If someone could point me to the right direction, that would be great.

Go take a look in the advertising forums and remember you get what you pay for. 1&1 is very well know, I personally have never done business with them, but if you are getting the specs you mentioned for that price beware of potential problems. I used to be with DreamHost which looked like a great deal and was for a while but then there were lots of slowdowns for anything sql related. In the end I decided to suck up the costs and get something better and I am very happy with it.

I agree with you entirely, but this site is for a nonprofit community service organization.. so, well I need something cheap for them.

If your Gallery2 is not used much, then you might get away with a cheapie shared host.

However, if you have a large gallery2 or a popular one, then you will most likely have a very slow gallery on a cheapie shared host.

Getting a fast Gallery2 running on a cheap host is more luck than quality of the hoster...you just might get lucky.

If you're going cheap and have a popular gallery, I suggest you go back to Gallery1, it uses much less system resources.

If you don't need support, $3 is a good catch.

I am thinking of Hostgator at this point, all I see when searching.. are good reviews with one or two bad ones. Does anyone have experience with them?

To try to put a site of that size, from a VPS to a $3 shared hosting account, is a bit like putting a 3 ton load on an average sedan. It may fit volume wise in certain scenarios, but...

Maybe a host will be willing to sponsor them, assuming they're a registered organization. You can always ask.

That site is not the only one on my VPS. But thanks Idcdc, comment noted.
