Need a good windows host...
I have a client that needs a good windows host. They have a traditional asp site with mssql database. They use about 50mb of space, so around 500mb-1gb of space is prefered. They only use a few hundred mb bandwidth a month, so as long as there is 10x that amount would be great (in case they do good one month ).
Anyone have any suggestions? These guys are real sensitive and have been worked over by their last host and last 2 developers, so I am trying to treat them right this time around.
Thanks,
Paul

My preference is for www.Appliedi.net
They know what they are doing and won't charge the earth for a single database

Do you have any specific requirement of control panel? I already see some good names mentioned in the posts above. DiscountASP and AppliedI are some of the companies that seem to have good rep on WHT.

Not really. Any will do. As long as the client can log in, get a backed up copy of their stuff and some stats (awstats, etc), then they will be more than happy as long as their website is up and running.

I noticed that $10 for a single database seems a bit much. I know licensing can be a pain, but I also know that hosts and bigger companies get good discounts.
Thanks guys! Keep the suggestions coming in

Take a guess at what a whole MSSQL 2005 server license costs per month (able to host 1000's of databases)?

Well, I know there is the per processor license are about $5,000 per processor. The User/Device CALs (standard 5 pack with server) is about $1000-1500 plus additional CALs. If you have 1000's of databases from 100s of customers, at even $2 per customer per month, you'd make your money mack within a year for CALs or a few years with processor licenses. Windows Server Web edition is cheap, so if you charge $10-20 a month on those same few hundred customers, you make more money there.
My point is, if you are a company that has enough servers (such as my day job), you get discounts. Sure, the little guy web hosts don't get the discounts that large hosts do, but that's part of the game, right?
Just because I am looking for a web host doesn't mean I am oblivious to the rest of the server world .

Ok sit yourself down because a per CPU license for MSSQL 2005 is $75 per month!
This is the WorkGroup Edition which will do all you need and can use up to 3GB of addressable RAM. Standard Edition is around $250 per month. SQL Exress is of course free and can address 1 GB a month.
So the fat cats have no excuse

Haha, ok, so I jumped the gun a little. I had no idea there were month to month licenses. I only hear about how big the licensing costs are at work.
I think I need to read more because you are the poster who said "won't charge the earth for a single database". My excuse for this error? It's early and I haven't had coffee . I thought I was in the begining of a flame.

I second the vote for Discountasp.net. I have used many windows hosts and they are by far the best I've used. I've been with them for a few years and they continually impress me (new features, fast response time, uptime is awsome)... and yes I have SQL with them and don't mind paying a bit more (I've learned in hosting if you pay for dirt cheap hosting...then that's why you get...dirt cheap service).
You can also check out other windows hosts here: http://www.411asp.net/home/hosting

I recently inquired about Windows hosts, and Cartika was recommended.

few hundred mb bandwith, 1GB diskspace! should be fine to find a host at a resonable price. Have you tried looking in some directories?
try findmyhosting.com webhostdir.com those are my favorite 2
