RAM vs CPU

I wanted to purchase a server for hosting proxies (PHProxy) and I was wondering which one of RAM or CPU is most utilised by the proxy script?

Obviously the RAM shouldnt be a bottleneck for the CPU and vice-versa, but what would you advise to go for ?

Say, would a sempron (lower end cpu) work well with 2GB ram, or would a dual xeon with 1gb ram be better ?

Thanks

CGI Script - Using more CPU
PHP Script - Using more RAM

I've hosted CGI script with around 2000 uniques daily in Dula Xeon 3.06 (4 CPUs) with few other projects and it was overloading it...

i would of thought 1gb ram would be enough to run it.
But it depends on how many you are planning to run/Number of uniques.

I would go for cpu power.

I would have to agree start out with a nice processor, then if you find you need more ram you can always add that at a later date. Will be much easier and maybe even cheaper then trying to upgrade the whole box in a month or two when you realize that the CPU cant handle your load.

Though, start with something within your budget and limit number of people who can use it at the same time. Then upgrade at a later date if you need too.
