How often does Google update their PR for websites?

Just wondering after around 6 months my site is finally showing a rank of 3.

Do you think using software like wordpress might have finally helped me? To be honest it seems like Google visits more and my entries make it into Google much quicker then any other CMS I have used. Just an observation that I am sure I am probably wrong on lol

You should do some reading here about page rank requirements.

this is a pretty good source of info.

I used to run a reasonably busy community site. Daily content would go into google before the day was out but the PR and link back stats stayed static for around 8 months. We finally got knocked up a notch and when we did I noticed other sites linking to us that had the same PR also gots theirs increased the same too.

I gave up worrying about PR and google entirely, incoming search engine traffic only accounted for 1/4 of all referred traffic and less than 2% of overall traffic.

The PR updation happens once in a 3-4 months time, but this time Google has not followed its trends. I would say, leave all the matters pertaining to PR aside and concentrate only on SERPs.

Google does update periodically, but there is no preset time or period in which this is done. Typically, Google will roll over updates on backlinks and page rank on its data centres when a complete index update and review has been completed on indexed documents and document integrity on that centre.

Because Google has lots of data centres, page rank updates happen quite far apart, sometimes in excess of 3 - 6 months.

The important thing is to focus on building your websites link profile, do not try and quantify early on, one month of hard link building won't always give you what you'd expect, especially since Google will not release all link information.

Keep building links, create some good link bait, some website tools and resources, and share something with the public, this is more likely to attract more natural backlinks.

Good luck

I would not spend too much time with PR. Many people are addicted to their PR and it really doesnt drive business.

I agree with you. I focus more on seo than pagerank.

Page Rank isn't the biggest thing to worry about, but it can be a good indicator that you are doing something right.

As far as SEO friendly CMS goes, here is the list that I have found in no particular order:

Wordpress (I use it and it works)
Soholaunch (SEO friendliness is one of the reasons I use this more than anything and that I work for them)
Blue Voda (I have reviwed their source code and tried it out)
Joomla (you need some extra programming abilities but it can be quite good)
drupal (don't know personally, but I have read many reviews and no other designers that are quite happy with the performance)
vBulletin 4.0 (forums are always the easiest for ranking in SEO, but their CMS looks to be quite promising.

Now keep in mind, not all of these CMS or Website Builders work the same, they all have the strong points and weeknesses, but I will not give my opinion because I do work for one of them, but you can try them all out except vbulletin, and blue voda only works with it's hosting company.

They all, see which one you like and give it go

Your rankings and traffic are what you should be working on. PR is dated, has zero value and merely wastes your time. Forget about it.

Google updates website's PR every 3 to 4 months. The next expected Google PR update then will be the last week of January 2010.
