[Internship] Looking to get my feet wet

Hello,

This may sound like an odd request, but I was wondering if anyone would be interested in some sort of "internship"-like worker? I'm not sure if people do this in the Web Hosting field, so let me explain.

I'm looking in to starting my own web hosting company, and I've been reading the various tutorials and "How To's" on these forums, but I don't feel comfortable jumping in to the whole scene just yet. I'd much rather have some sort of experience working in a hosting company, learning how the various processes function and just a general feel for if I really would want to enter the field.

So I'm looking for some sort of Internship at a web host, and I'd be willing to do any sort of work: Sales Rep, Tech Support Assistant, or whatever. I'd be willing to do it for no pay, as I value work experience greatly.

A little about me:
I'm 18 and will be attending RPI and majoring in IT. So I will be entering the IT field, just not for a bit.
I've been running my own website/business for the past four years. I've gone through dozens of hosts, shared, vps and now dedicated, and know the troubles that arise from hosting.
I hand-code all my websites, with HTML and PHP.
I administer my own server right now. I have a general understanding of how to run the server, but not comprehensive enough to run my own web hosting company off of.
I'm a very hard worker and love technology, enough to major in it in college.
I'd be able to be online every day during the summer for a majority of the time, when I'm not at my real job.

So, if no one is interested then I won't fret. It may sound like an odd request, but (hopefully) not an absurd one.

I would greatly appreciate this opportunity and promise to be a dedicated worker.

Thanks for your time.

Hello,

I am not in the hosting business, but in a related field. I'm not in need of an intern either, but I like to share my comments.

For being 18, you are very educated already. If you've ran your own website for 4 years, and have been through various types of hosting services - you are moving along very nicely. It is very noble to offer your help for free, and I'm glad that you understand the importance of learning your field before jumping into it because many people much older cannot grasp that realization.

If you continue at the rate you are, you will be able to run a very successful hosting business. I wish you the best of luck in your quest and look forward to seeing your own business in the near future.

Thank you for the kind words! I've read a large amount of threads here on WHT that talk horror stories of hosts that spring up, and can't sustain themselves due to people getting in to commitments that couldn't be handled.

I'd also like to mention that I would be willing to have an actual job with a company if it could supplement the work that I'd be doing for my "non-internet" job at Barnes and Noble. But I'm open to anything really.
