    Hosts that use DV2 DataCenter

How reliable are hosts that use the dv2 datacenter in Atlanta? What are dv2's bandwidth providers? Don't they mostly use cogent?

No .. they do not mostly use cogent

MFN is the mostly use connection as far as i know

Relability is good due to the fact bandwidth is multihomed over good networks such as Qwest , MFN , Telia .. as 10 more providers such like

We are using Dv2 datacentre and we find that we have never gone through a cognet route as yet.

The datacentre is not bad at all!

    Kind regards

How much cogent bandwidth do they use? How's dv2's uptime? When's the last time they were down? How do their compare to VO and NAC?

We got a server there 2 days ago, so I can't really say much but so far they have been great, 100% uptime, I have also heard from many other people they don't have any or very few outages. That is one of the reasons we selected DV2

    Thumbs up

I have heard alot of good things about DV2. Alot of hosting providers have servers there with no compaints. If you wish do a search on it and you will find alot of comments about them.

dv2's uptime has been great since we've been there, though I'm sure others who have been there longer would be a more accurate judge. Their support has been fantastic. Generally (every time except once) any of the few problems that we have had have been resolved within minutes. I really have nothing bad to say about them.

Hard to say, they do have cognet in the mix but I see very little traffic routed thru it. I think it all depends on the load time of day etc. I know they had an outage last month with a router that took down about 25% of the center for a few hours, I was never affected by it tho. Other than that, very near 100% up time. I personally think they compare quite favorable.

    Exclamation Telcos

The way certain Telco Companies like ******** have got into trouble because of the failings of top level ********** we had all better look out. We, in future, might not have any bandwidth!

Ok everyone, I was bored so I tracerouted from 12 lookingglasses/routeservers/etc to see what route gets taken to DV2. Below are the results. To me it looks like they have connections to cogent/netrail and NationalNet :-)
    UUNet > NetRail > DV2
    Level3 > NetRail > DV2
    C&W > NetRail > DV2
    Genuity > NetRail > DV2
    Above > National-Net > DV2
    Sprint > Cogent > DV2
    ATT > NetRail > DV2
    Global Crossing > NetRail > DV2
    Qwest > NetRail > DV2
    Broadwing > National-Net > DV2
    ELI.net > National-Net > DV2
    Verio > NetRail > DV2

Thats great, not to rain on your parade or anything but two days isnt exactly a good figure to quote 100% uptime. Ive heard good things about DV2 though, you should be in good hands.

I use eServers.biz who is partnered with DV2 and I am impressed with their service.

One of my servers has been up 75 days the other 24 days.
No network downtime yet. Fast speeds. There's the odd problem like a link from the Europe to US falls over, but that is fixed quickly.

All in all, I feel safe knowing that I will be opening up my hosting doors shortly.

And NetRail was headquartered/founded in Atlanta, so if you wanted to buy NetRail/Cogent transit anywhere in North America, that would probably be the best-connected place for them.

Your traceroutes and what not might looks great, but it is very easily to manipulate the inbound and outbound routes to save money and at the same time make it look as if you're using tier-1 bandwidth throughout.

Eg. inbound traffic (e.g. traceroutes) might travel along MFN or Level 3, but because inbound traffic only represents a fraction of outbound traffic providers can easily affordable a quality tier-1 pipe for inbound traffic. Then use a Cogent/Epik etc.. pipe for outbound traffic. Most people won't know, its looks good and hence you're fooled. The only way to be sure would be to do a traceroute back to you and a few others from a shell account hosted within the data center.

I'm not saying DV2 or any specific provider does this but it's just something to be aware of.

    My 2p.

We have servers in the DV2 centre and we have had no problems at all. In fact, our Europe clients seem to think that the DV2 centre is the best centre to serve them.

Our outbound is usually cogentco while our inbound for us is usually MFN / National Net. We have absolutely no complaints about eServers or dv2, we've had servers for approx. 3 months.

It'd be great if someone did this, and posted those results.
