Hmm...File Hosting.

I'm looking for some file hosting.
Nothing fancy, just hosting around 5 files.

I need about 2 - 3 GIGs of space, and a lot of bandwith.
A lot, as in, minimum of 2 terabytes of bandwith.

2 of the files are about 1GB each.
It will be constantly downloaded /=

Cant say budget because I really don't know how much it will cost.
So...For now let's just say...Budget is high as the # of the stars in the universe

I'm going to guess something in their TOS prevents it? (Wild speculation)

DreamHost's "sweet dreams" package seems ideal for what you need.

From what I've read Dreamhost don't like people using their services for file hosting.

Why not take a look at some backup space providers. I know JaguarPC and BQBackup provide a great set of plans and prices.

What you are looking for I don't think a shared hosting package would be abny good for you, unless you want to be moving hosting companies every week and other week!

I think you can't do better then this nocster.net/unmetered.shtml only 79.95/month for 10 MBPS connection, I think anyone on this fourm would agree with me.

Because...It is a shared hosting enviroment, and I know my files will be constantly downloaded and these are huge files. So my cpu usage will go way up.

Besides...I'm looking for file hosting not webhosting.
and I'm pretty sure that almost every host got a tos that states that the webhosting may not be used for just filehosting.

as long there's no site/html only I think it's fine
my friend use DH to host the files and it used 2TB/mo

btw have you tried megaupload business ?
http://www.megaupload.com/business/

price per TB is € 24.99, and it's direct
I don't use it btw it just I know that MU speed is awesome, it can reach 1-2MB/s per connection

Simple file transfers don't use that much in terms of CPU. It is in fact one of the few things that can make the new budget shared hosting package offers still legitimate.

Really? wow thats great lol.
But just to make sure.
I'm prolly going to be in a situation where my files could be downloaded like constantly (1 gig files), on 24/7. So doing that won't make my cpu usage go up?

I'm sure plenty of people use Dreamhost for file hosting. That really shouldn't be a problem.

I recommend emailing the host before you sign up. Some hosts will shut you down for using too much bandwidth, even if you don't go over your monthly limit (especially in cases where there are big spikes).

Guilty as charged -- I use dreamhost to HTTP host rainbowtables for FreeRainbowTables.com

If you're going to do some filehosting, you could use a promo code like 50BW to get 50% extra bandwidth beyond whatever plan you choose.

As said, streaming a file from the HD through apache doesn't take nearly ANY system resources -- so this is one of the few ways you can use up all the dreamhost resources without maxing out RAM/CPU usage.

Thinking about it, I used a coupon for extra bandwidth when I got my account...it was 70BW i think...70% extra bandwidth.

Hope this helps
