Seeking a DECENT shared Windows Hosting plan.

I've run the gamut searching for a decent shared Windows hosting plan with .NET v2 and an MS SQL database and have yet to find one.

I'm currently using Host Department but have a feeling that relationship is about to fall through although I'm giving them as many opportunities to correct their issues as possible.

That said, anyone know of any decent shared WinHost plans/companies?

Thanks!

What are your resource requirements (storage and bandwidth)? What's your ideal budget?

The smallest possible. I don't want to spend much more than 10/month if I don't have to. Just using this to learn to develop in the ASP.NET environment - I'm normally a LAMP junkie.

I think 1and1 is a good host. I've been with them but I used the Linux plan and it was ok and fast. I don't know with the support though. Their e-mail replies to me seemed a little too slow for my taste. I mean, most web hosts now have Live Support 24/7... Anywho, they have low rates and they offer Windows hosting if that's what you're looking for. Oh yeah and the site is 1and1.com but they also have a UK version 1and1.co.uk. Good luck! ^^

If you are looking for good Windows/ASP.NET, then you should go with a host that specializes in Windows/ASP.NET hosting. I know many people are going to disagree with what about I'm about to say, but I learned a long time ago, hosts that offer both linux and windows hosting just don't offer good enough support and Windows knowledge when compared to a host that specializes in Windows/ASP.NET hosting.

With that said, I would recommend Discountasp.net. I have used them for about 3 years and I will continue to use them.

Iration, the ad I just saw for ASP was DiscountAsp. Any particular reason you recommend them?

As a ASP.NET developer, I like their services because of the features they offer and their control panel. They support a ton of features such Web Services, a lot of ASP.NET components, they support both ASP.NET 2.0 and ASP.NET 1.1 and of course both MS SQL 2005 and MS SQL 2000.

As mentioned, their control panel is very good. Within their control panel, there is an IIS Manager where you can manage IIS settings, Permissions Manager where I can give different permissions to different folders of my site, etc. The fact that they built their own control panel showed me that they knew web development which also demonstrated to me, before I had an account with them, that they would be able to answer many of my ASP.NET related questions. I was right, they really do know how to answer my ASP.NET questions. And yes...their support is very responsive.

Another reason I liked them is the speed at which they launched new features. They are not just sitting back and twidling their thumbs, they consistenly launch ASP.NET related new features, which is great for me. For example, right now, I am trying to figure out how to incorporate WCF (Windows communication foundation), which is .NET 3.0 feature, into an web application that I am building and Discountasp.net now supports .NET Framework 3.0.

Thanks for your input. I believe I'm going to go the discountasp.net way thanks to your in-depth review.

Wish me luck!

Iration,

DiscountASP.net has a referal program. Your review should count as a referal. Would you like to sign up so you can receive $40.00 from them? I tried to PM you but you've got PMs off.

Let me know. Thanks!
