cPanel: Need to Modify or Create an Account

Greetings,

I've just run upon a problem while trying to go into my phpMyadmin from within my MySQL Databases icon.

When I try to log into phpMyadmin I get this message:

Quote:
"This feature is not available while logged in with root override. You are logged in with the root, or reseller's password. Please login with this user's account password."
Also, as soon as I log into cPanel I receive a red "Warning: You are logged in using the reseller or root password." Yes, I am logging into the only account I have.

When logging in with the initial account I created I can view the MySQL dbs that I have created, but I don't have access to phpMyadmin - I get that error message. This is new because for the last two weeks - about as long as I've had this server - I have had no problem even signing in with the same user id and password. Suddenly it won't let me in.

So what do I need to do?

I created a new account, but I can't see my MySQL dbs with that new account.

I don't know how to modify my one existing account so that I can access phpMyadmin.

Any thoughts? I hope I've been clear.

Why not just use WHM to access phpMyAdmin?

Are you sure you only have one account? That message is what you get when you use your root/reseller account to get into one of your user accounts, instead of logging into the latter directly.

Are you using the root account to access phpmyadmin? Use the credentials for that specific domain/account when you want to access or change its files and databases ; not the root/reseller account.

Because I didn't know I could. But I just found where that is possible and it worked! Thanks for the heads-up! Still quite green here.

Yes. When I hit "List Accounts" in WHM there is only one listed and it is the one I originally created when getting set up and that turns out to be root/reseller account. I guess I need to create a new account that (a)is not root level and (b)still has access to the MySQL dbs that I created via my root account. Don't know how to do that yet and when I did create a new account I could not see the dbs by clicking on the MySQL icon.

Yes. I only have a root/reseller account. Now to figure out how to create a second account so I can play with it all more safely. I understand that there is more danger of messing something when logged in as root.

Is your root password the same as your accounts password? If so it will assume you are trying to login as root...

Well, I think that's true. But I only actually have one account, which was the first one I set up when setting up the server and WHM. So it actually is logging me in - correctly - as root. Maybe when I set up the second account, I'll make sure to use a different password - just in case.

Even though you only have one visible CPanel/WHM account there is also a root account, which uses the root password of the server and has access to everything. If you create a new account and use the same password this will cause a problem. When logging into CPanel it first checks to see if the username is valid, if it is it checks to see if you are using the root (or reseller) password first (if they are the same, then this will cause a problem!!!). If you are using the root (or reseller) password then you will have access to all the CPanel accounts, otherwise just the one account.

Basically just make sure you have a good root password on the server and use good reseller passwords, additionally don't re-use them on accounts. For example if a client decides to use the same password as your root password (regardless of the login name the try and login with) they will be granted access to all the accounts on the server

Wow! That was really great information! Who knew a password could be so powerful. My next step is to create a secondary account so that I can go in without that red warning because I don't want to mess something up as root.

One final question: when I create the second account, what do I have to do to also be able to see the MySQL dbs that I've created as the root user? The last account I made I was unable to do that - although.....this could be very likely due to having used the same password as root and I probably didn't even log in as the secondary account as I thought I was...

Hmmmm
