Reputable and Fast host for under $80?
Hi All,
I have spent countless hours surfing these forums, and I now know all the host not to go with. Seems pretty much all hosts have their share of complaints.
I'm looking for a reputable host who is not overloading servers, and I don't want to be managing the server myself.
- The website (custom cms + vbulletin forums) i need hosted is PHP/MySQL based.
- Site receives around 5,000 daily uniques.
- 60GB bandwidth used a month and currently at 5GB disk space consumed.
Can anyone recommend a host for under $80 that will be suitable for this site?
Thanks in advance!

Are you looking for shared hosting or VPS?
How many are on your CMS and Forum during peak periods?

Thanks for responding Vince.
I have normally around 20 people on the CMS, and about 10 people on the forums (excluding bots).
I'm ok with VPS as long as i don't need to do any of the technical stuff. I do however need SSH access.

n9com,
The majority of VPS providers don't offer managed services -- there's a few though, e.g:
www.servint.net

I think vps is what you need, all vps at servint.com are managed

Your requirements are certainly reasonable. I do not think you need a VPS solution as any decent shared solution will be able to handle your needs. I would check out WHT's HostQuote feature as well as thier offers section.
Good luck and let us know how you make out!

One of the most reasonable requests I have seen on WHT in some time
I would recommend doing a search on www.hostsearch.com or www.findmyhosting.com with your requirements.
- Make a list of 4-5 web hosting companies that are well within your budget ( 99% of them should be ) and meet your requirements.
- Do a search for reviews on each one of them here on WHT.
- Contact each provider with some sort of technical question to test their response timings.
Best of luck with your search and do keep us updated on who you choose and be sure to post a review on the provider in a few months!

Thanks for all the advice.
After my long search, I decided to move to MediaLayer.
Not only did they spend a whole day moving my site in chunks (MediaTemple has 2gb limit on tar files), but they also employed a php coder at their own cost to correct a compatibility issue within my CMS.
So far the service is great, I had to get a custom plan from them as I required more space/bandwidth than their standard plans. The site loads from a full refresh in 2 seconds for me, while at mediatemple it took over 8 seconds.
My users have noticed a large improvement. I will post a more detailed review after a few months.
As for support in moving our my site, MediaLayer gets 10/10
