Godaddy overage charges!!
hey folks,
i just got a nice bill of 200$ overage fees at Godaddy... grrrr!
my other host (jodohost) has always sent emails when overages are reached - here i got nothing.
is this standard procedure??
also - they have not been willing to allow me to use any of these 200$ towards future hosting, and my others hosts have always been wiling to do this for me (even if it means commiting to staying a year).
i can't understand godaddy's inistance in not giving me a partial refund or credit in hosting etc, especially when Bob says "I take pride in the fact that we're straight shooters. There are no tricks in what we do, just good old-fashioned business principles." ( https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/pres_page.asp)
anyone else have stuff like this??
cheers!

They are really old-fashioned company. But if they want to have more clients they have to change their TOS IMO.

but how can over usage charges amount be usable somewhere else?
You are paying agnst charges, so no question of credit in hosting in this account.
However, sometimes it is not possible to intimate about over usage. Still no comments on that part.

Although godaddy pretty much sucks when it comes to business ethics but you still don't have any valid reason to be angry. Unless it is a billing error on their part, you must have used the resources for which you are being asked to pay.

the thing with godaddy, is that you are paying up front for the NEXT month's hosting - not previous.
therefore the over-usage IS for future usage.
and even though they might be valid fees (although i still havent found the ovareg fees on this site anywhere!) - they can still forgo this, as my other hosts have done in the past, in favour of a long term upgrade.

I don't think so. If you went over your bandwidth you would be paying for the previous month. No host would speculate your bandwidth use for the next month and try and bill you an extra $200!

This really depends on GoDaddy and about their customer retention policy

well, the supe i spoke to seemed pretty happy to see me go. why not? it doesnt come off his pay check
and -
just the $200 in extra fees, covers what i would have paid in about 4 years hosting... so he'll probably get a bonus

This is a first Ive seen of godaddy charging overage fees!! Can you elaborate a little more? Was this specifically for bandwidth overages? If so, I would be interested in knowing what plan you had there? Purchased and used?

GoCrappy is terrible as far as rentention and customer service goes. The only worst host, IMHO, is 0&0 [1&1].
I registered five domains with them, and they threw in free private registrations since I did five at a time. Cool, cool... Eventually the time came to renew. That's when the put in the screw job:
Cost to renew all of them for a year: $35; fair to middlin' price.
Cost to renew all of them with a private registration: $85.
Needless to say I had to call them because their web site had to be on crack. Nope. It was going to cost me $10/year/domain to renew my 'private' registrations with them.
So I asked to speak with a supervisor, and eventually he told me that the reason why the renewals for private registrations coming in at $10/domain/year was (according to him) because they sent each and every one through their lawyers.
At that point I became indignant. I broke it down simply for him:
"Does ANYONE EVER believe the line of bull**** you just told me?"
Needless to say, I no longer have any domains registered with GoCrappy.
EDIT: This was for just registrations, not registrations + hosting!

I would recommend reading GoDaddy's TOS, keeping up with your own responsibilities, and to not come here and complain when you fail to do the above mentioned.
Also, I would recommend you move to smaller hosting providers who will watch your every move, as it looks like you lack the discipline to do so. Large providers like GoDaddy expect you to follow there rules and regulations, and they normally will not call you out on the mishaps until the bill comes...

I would like to know what kind of "overages" your being charged for. I can't imagined someone going over their massive bandwidth limit.

i dont expect a phone call when i go over.
on my other hosts, who are in no way small, when i go over - the FTP stop working (ie uploading), and their is an over usage email that gets sent automatically. dont tell me thats too hard for godaddy to setup.
