Cpanel backup + offsite backup

What do you prefer in terms of backup for a cpanel server, or what is your suggestions. I can do incremental or tar.gz backup.

I do offsite backup, so rsync is a plus. But, with tar.gz backup, everyday all accounts are trasfered.

If I do incremental, I dont have tar.gz, however less transfer.

What do you do or do you suggest ?

Daily full backup by cpanel. Rsync the /backup(s)/daily folder offside shortly after.

Use the --rsyncable flag for GZip in the cPanel backup script. There is a good thread about it in the cPanel forums.

First backup is large, the rest is just the differences in files (how rsync is supposed to be).

Not sure of the specifics but I'll try to explain. The 'rsyncable' flag causes Gzip to store the compressed data in a format that allows RSync to perform it's differential operations, allowing it to transmit only the changes over the wire.

You always have an up-to-date remote backup offsite, without the cost of transfering X^X worth of bandwidth daily.

Link to the cpanel forums is below.

Let's say I have a space HDD in the server, for the purpose of backups on the server (quick restores), and a second server, in anothe DC, for the purposes of backups.

Now, I setup cPanel's back up back daily / weekly / monthly, and this get's done to the second HDD on /backup.

How would I set a script to run rsync in order to rsync the backsup to the offsite backup? Can the script automatically be triggered, somehow?

It is done via a crontab command. A crontab is a scheduled task.

The thread given by Adam-AEC explains it.
