CP without addon domains?

Hi,
I am new here so be gentle :-))

I am looking for shared hosting with CP but without the addon domain feature.
The reason is that I bought a script which is obviously not working with CP addon domains. Since I am not so familiar with CP I thought this is always the way CP works but obviously there a different versions.

Maybe someone can point me in the right direction regarding a suitable host and educate me a little bit about CP (e.g. link to more information etc)

Thanks in advance - every response is appreciated!

Hi and welcome to WHT!

Are you looking to host multiple domains on a shared CP account (hence the add-on domains) or just one? What are your other requirements (space, bandwidth, budget)? You may also want to check out the offers section and contact a few hosts with your questions.

Hello Barcelona12,

Yes, this can happen from time to time with add-on domains.

You have 2 options here:

1) use a control panel that utilizes true multiple domain structure, vs add-on domains (ie sub folders)
2) if you want to stick with cpanel, get a reseller account and create a separate account for each domain

Hope this helps...

If you don't mind to tell us, which domain is it? what's the problem that you're getting to make it work with an addon domain?

I would venture that the problem is with the script and not with your cPanel.

Most common problems are needed register_globals on and a poorly defined root directory. Both of which can be modified unless the script is encrypted.

We might need to move to a new thread to discuss that but which script are you trying to use?

Are you sure a CP without addon domains will solve your problem? If so, you can approach a host with CP and ask them for no addon domains. But that means you can't have multiple domains or do you still want that?

what problems are you having running scripts in addon domain?
most probably you will then also have a problem running it in reseller plan as problem looks to be in the script.

Some scripts require a top level folder for running. People prefer true multi-domain hosting over addon-domains for a reason...and it's something cPanel can't offer.

It looks like finding a good host is like finding the woman you want to share the rest of your life with!
Some had only bad experiences, some are just lucky and some might never find what they are looking for
Thanks to all who responded to my question - as Andrew/cartikahosting pointed out reseller hosting might be the solution
Thanks for responding to my question!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Barcelona, you don't need a reseller solution. Control panels such as HELM, PLESK, etc will offer you true multi-domain hosting. A reseller account will cost you more, and requires extra steps for simple tasks....

They do because they are poorly written. I have yet to find one that could not be modified to work in a sub dierectory.

There are also hosts that offer WHM (which allows the creation of cPanel end user accounts) for their shared hosting packages too, they just don't allow reselling or put a more restrictive limit on the number of domains/accounts or offer a relatively limited amount of space and data transfer. I've seen it marketed as "(true) multiple domains hosting".
