    Social Securtiy for a server??

Its intresting to me that some server reseller or small server seller sites which ranks very low in alexa want me to give them my SSN for a server they said Phone verfication is not enuff. how common is this i mean we talking about someone's SSN they can screw them up big time if that kind of info is used wrongly or taken from a un-secure site.

Never heard of this, ever... I wouldn't give it to them, it's definitely not necessary.

Definitely wouldn't consider it "common practice" in the hosting industry. The fact that they are a small host, and asking you for SSN would be a HUGE red flag for me. Stay away!

Would you trust your SSN with the cashier of the groccery store?

Same logic for this really, I won't.

Never once heard of this one legitimately. Hosts typically don't perform background checks on orders, nor are they paying you W2 (as an employee), so yes no reason whatsoever they should need nor have your SSN. I'd definitely look into reporting said provider to BBB and possibly other industry regulators (as chances are it'd sound as though they may be attempting identity theft).
