Video Mail - Cool tech?

With the event of all the Video surge, e.g Youtube, Myspace, you name it. Video has become really popular on the net ...

I'd like to start offering Video mail features for customers, since most already have a Webcam in their new Laptop or use an external one with IM.

@Mail produce a good Videomail plugin, which seems very few other vendors offer. http://atmail.com/videomail.php for details.

What are people's experience using Video mail , is it a viable add-on for a hosting account for my clients?

Ugh, IMHO just another way to clog up the STMP system which is already ill-equiped to cope with large file transfers.

Ah, looks like the @Mail Video mail attach's uses a HTML link for the email and adds a header to the message. Doesn't seem to attach any Video as a MIME attachment which is pretty light and cool.

All streaming via Flash/FLV

http://phpdemo.atmail.com/ for the demo, seems pretty neat.

They should stream via WMV instead it plays beter ON ALL COMPUTERS!!

These companies assume everyone has the latest crap and as a result it can cause problems.......

They could stream @ 100k WMV and it would look as good as thier flash crap does..... (And it would play MUCH BETTER)

Streaming media via flash is the crappiest way to send things.. (It can be very taxing on the computer) The sad part is,they dont have to do it this way!!

Looks VERY KEWL regardless

You proven at least 1 thing with your above post.. either you're 12 years old, or you don't have a clue what you're on about.

>>They should stream via WMV instead it plays beter ON ALL COMPUTERS!!

Not true, flash being on 98% of computers cross platform has better desktop penetration than windows media.

>>They could stream @ 100k WMV and it would look as good as thier flash crap does..... (And it would play MUCH BETTER)

You probably haven't heard of, or can comprehend, the video quality available in flash via either h264 or on2 vp6. They provide equal or better quality for a given bandwidth compared to wmv

They aren't 'sending things' anything other than a web link, which I doubt would tax even the probable low end pc your mom bought for you.

Flash video is actually the best way to show video on the web which is why youtube, video.msn.com (yes a microsoft site), Myspace, Facebook, Bebo, Google video, Abc News, CNN, Reuters, Amazon, New York Times, Washington Post, Yahoo, CNET, Fox, Discovery channel, Motionbox, Jumpcut, Brightcove, the BBC all use it.

Perhaps you know something they don't....?
