Is there a registry key that can distinguish between Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 server?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProductName

That key is Windows 2000 for both Win 2k and Win 2k server so if there's anything else that would be GREAT.

There are several.

There are articles out there that claim you can convert to server from workstation by changing registry keys.

I have my doubts, and certainly would not do it on a production server.

Are you trying to establish that your server is a leigt W2k Server?

Not sure the purpose of this question.

Build versioning numbers between W2k and W2k server will be different.
