Efreeservers merger
This was sent on Monday/Tuesday
Florida-based Sago Networks, LLC and San Francisco-based E.Continents, Inc. are proud to announce E.Continents merger into the Sago Networks Family of Companies. Effective July 1, 2002, E.Continents will join Sagos network of data centers and hosting products. E.Continents customers will enjoy access to Sagos expanded product offering and fully deployed network.
We have been seeking ways to maximize our product offering and provide turn-key solutions sophisticated enough for our high-end users, says Jacques Pham, President & CEO of E.Continents. By joining the Sago Networks Family of Companies, we are able to dramatically expand our product offering and offer further value for our clients money.
The combination of these two fully funded, profitable, and cash flow positive companies will yield a diversified enterprise with significant divisions involved in wireless Internet, dedicated Internet, dedicated hosting, managed hosting, shared hosting, data storage, mission critical redundancy, cellular telephone tower construction, cellular telephone tower ownership, systems integration, residential and commercial real estate, outdoor advertising, and co-location. Customers of both companies will enjoy access to expanded dedicated server offerings. Sagos diversification into multiple business segments provides customers with the assurance that services bought from Sago will always be of the highest quality and can rest assured that todays uncertain economy will not affect them.
We are very excited about this merger and know it will advance our ambition to grow into the largest dedicated server host with the fullest product offering and most robust network, says Miller M. Cooper, President & CEO of Sago Networks.
E.Continents customers will continue to enjoy the same level of personal service they have always received and will further benefit from Sagos full customer support staff. Additionally, customers will benefit from Sagos 82,000 square foot company owned data center and diverse multi-homed Internet network. Transit available to current E.Continents customers will more than double in the coming weeks as a result of this alliance.
About E.Continents:
E.Continents, Inc. offers comprehensive hosting solutions under the E.Continents and E.FreeServers brands. E.Continents is located in San Mateo, California. The company also maintains an additional Tier-1 network operations center in San Francisco, California. More information about E.Continents can be found at www.econtinents.com or by calling (650) 627-9603.
About Sago Networks:
Sago Networks is a Florida-based diversified technology company. Sago has offices and network facilities in its company-owned 82,000 square foot headquarters in Tampa, Florida, with secondary facilities located in downtown Tampa and Dallas, Texas. More information about Sago can be found at www.sagonet.com or by calling (813) 839-7242.
What I was told was they are shutting down the operations in San Francisco and moving all servers to Florida Datacenter. They will deduct from the monthly bill for the amount of downtime. They are renting a jet and flying them to Tampa. This is supposed to happen on the 14th of July. If your a customer of Efreeservers you should contact Jacques for more info.

Well,
Their network was down from about 4 AM for several hours this morning. Their redundancy did not work at all (wireless link to downtown) and all of their wireless and colo/dedicated servers were down.
Plus, their datacenter uses only cogent now.
Supposedly a backup on FGC, but it does not work until cogent goes down.
Glad I am not in that DC yet

It is a shame that I have to get the info from this board.
They forget that they actually have running contracts with people and businesses. Moving datacenters with 9 days notice (I did not get anything until now), changing connections, IP's and whatnot makes them break the contract terms AND IS UNACCEPTABLE!!! This will be a major damage to our business running our 1st nameservers in their facility and of other businesses placing their trust into our company . And there goes another lawsuit if this is true, or at least a good point to void another contract without penalty. I don't care about them hiring a fu$$i$g Jet to move the hardware.

Microsol,
The merger announcement was sent to all customers (including you) on July 1, 2002. Please let us know you'd like another copy. The July 14 date is only tentative for now. We are still waiting for Genuity to complete their fiber link to the Tampa facility. Sago does use Cogent for their website and other business activities, but they have also added additional fiber lines from Genuity, Cable & Wireless, Global Crossing, and Williams.
Our marketing department will provide each customer with more information about the migration in the coming days (including your new IPs assignment from Genuity). For now, here's a brief overview of the new Sago / EFS --
* 90 Employees.
* $15 Million in revenues for FY 2002.
* Two (2) data centers -- Dallas & Tampa.
* BGP-4 & multi-homed network.
* 24/7/365 monitoring and support.
* All pricing, contracts, and service agreememt will remain the same.
If you have any additional questions about Sago, please call Adam Dillaplain -- Director of Acquisitions directly at 813-839-7242.
Warm Regards,
Customer Support Team

Checking again I found the email. Sent on July 2nd at 4am.
14 days for such an operation is also not acceptable because of all the hassle involved in such operation. If there are any complaints coming from clients I'll forward you all the angry emails.
But anyway. Makes it easier for us to move the server to our facility in Miami when the contract is over

Hmm, and another post on that thread, because there is something to make clear:
There is NOTHING in the email of July 2nd about moving servers from SF to Tampa as seen in the first post above! So, we DID actually find out on these forums AND YOU DID NOT TELL US. Why? Something to hide? I consider that as NOT NOTIFIED of changes of this importance.

Hello,
I have 2 servers hosted with Efree and I am agree with
Microsol.
Moving datacenters with 9 days notice ,
changing connections, IP's IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!
We have to during this period:
-1 Change all our DNS location.
-2 Buy, setup a new server and find a data center
for having a small part of our website online the 14 july.
Totally unaceptable!

wow didn't know I would stir up this big of discussion. The only reason why I spoke with Jacques was because we were having some problems getting our mail delivered to hotmail.com and yahoo.com from our lyris mail server which manages our newsletters of over 1 million people.
We were getting details about not accepting our mail because of our IP address and level 3 with UCE. He told me he would call me later on in the week to discuss about moving to a new IP address/block after an announcement.
In some sense I do agree that they should have mentioned something in the email about moving and closing down this datacenter that was a big suprise to me.
At this time I think we might do some temporary move as we can't afford ot have any downtime on our gagsplus.com site so we have a server at rackshack so we might just move it over there a couple days before hand and wait out the move.
We will wait and see I guess.Gagsplus - http://www.gagsplus.com

Dilhole,
An email was sent to you on July 1, 2002 and one of our tech also tried to call you as well, but your phone number is no longer in service. Please provide us with your new contact information at your earliest convenience so that we can send the Genuity IPs to you. Again, all bandwidth pricing, service agreements, and contractual obligations will remain the same and binding.

you made
You made people suffer downtime with moving and making them change ips with at most 14 days notice??
Also, a wireless link to downtown, ive spend the last year studying wireless networks.
Perhaps you would like to enlighten your customers on what wireless equipment you use. Brand names please.
Im sure your aware that a wifi connection can only reliably transmit data up to 9mbps over a long distance based on real world testing.
Of course there is laser, but lasers cost more then it costs to get fiber from the streets, and their rated for less then 30 days before they require adjustments, and thats based on atmospheric conditions.
So if you could simply let us know what equipment you use for your wireless connection, it would be very interesting.affordablecolo.com carrier grade colocation at a affordable price!

We STILL did not get ANY information about ANY move of ANY server. Ha, you don't expect me to ask YOU about this information? Your "press release" doesn't give ANY hint about what's going to happen. Do you expect us to take out our crystal ball? Did you try to call us as you did with Dilhole? Again, as we received the above email (Press Release) only which in no case shows any hint about any move (if yes, it's actually hidden a very good way and I need glasses) or what's going on, we consider us as not notified if there is any DC move coming up in less than 4 weeks! Hell, we even inform OUR SMALLEST client with 4 weeks notification of any change we are going to make.
