Any of you use roundcube e-mail
Hi,
Has any of you or your hosts installed roundcube e-mail?
My host just "updated" from squirrelmail.
I applaud my host for quickly updating software.
However, I cannot applaud the software. Its flash-based and I find it hard to click and actually open e-mail messages.
Plus it takes a long time to load.
Anyone else have experience with this?

I used squirrelmail the first time I used mail, and after that mail only seemed to go to squirrelmail and not roundcube... so I can't actually give an opinion

I currently have Round Cube Installed and my clients love it. I like Squirrel Mail but the clients like the New Age look of Round Cube. It works and it is easy.

Ditto here, however I myself don't use it as much as clients do (since I use thunderbird for email).

I think when you say flash-based you actually mean AJAX based. There is not one bit of flash it roundcube.
As far as the slowness(it is probably installed on a server with high CPU load), it opens very fast for me and I have not had any problems with not being able to view email messages.

Actually, there not that much CPU load on my server, I had a dedicated box and my sites aren't that big. I just find squirrelmail better.

Squirrelmail is good, too. You've got to remember that Roundcube has a totally different objective than regular webmail applications.

Roundcube relies heavily on mysql and actually does quite a number of lookups for each operation...
If there are a lot of people using it then the database server will be pretty busy which might cause a problem. Especially for a host coming from squirrel mail which can happily use flat files for everything.

Flat file db/settings storage, vs having mysql as the backend (as roundcube uses mysql for it's data storage).

We are currently trying out RoundCube. It has a nice, fresh layout and seems to be working fine, however we still continue to offer Horde as many clients are more used to it.
