Multisite Hosting

I'm looking for a hosting company that offers Multisite hosting. I know of Site5 and have used them but wasn't happy with their support, so does anyone know of other companies that offer this?

Thanks,

Well you have 2 options. Either a shared account with the ability for addon domains, or a reseller account where you can create a new account for each domain you want to host.

Most hosting companies offer at least 1 of the 2 plans.

Agreed. Shared hosting plans are usually cheaper though. How many sites are you planning to host? Also, how much disk space and bandwidth are you using?

Will you be hosting your own web sites or will you be hosting others as well? Do you need separate control panels for each domain you host?

I will be hosting 3 sites at first and will be adding 2 more. I prefer to have separate stats, ftp, control panel, etc. for each domain/web site.

Do you need these under different accounts? Or do you want to manage each domain under 1 account?

If you prefer to have the control panel separated, then what you are looking for is a reseller account. It will allow you to create a control panel account for each domain, managing your resources however you divide them.

You can browse around the reseller forum for a better idea of what exactly you'll be looking for.

I'm looking for a site like Site5 where I can host all my sites under 1 account. Each site will share resources from the main account and each site will have it's own control panel, stats, etc. This isn't a reseller account but a multisite account

Actually, I believe what you are referring to is a reseller account, but Site5 customizes it and calls it a "MultiSite account" by their own definition. With Site5 did you have a main account where you could create accounts with their own control panel logins and share resources?

With the different terms used among hosts, it can be quite confusing on what services you're actually needing from one host to the next.

Or a Multiple domain account that assigns each domain setup a control panel and unique features. These are not neccessarily reseller accounts, persay. A Reseller account can be used for the purpose of multiple domain hosting.

The rest of the industry, other then site5's marketing department, calls that feature-set a reseller package. Most of the hosts on this board can take care of you.

Aussie Bob is correct, I was a bit too specific with the terminology I used as they're often called reseller accounts, multi domain accounts, and a few other lesser-used terms, but generally they all offer similar features. The label used for such a multi-site account does vary as I said before, so it's best to see what is offered in each to see if it's actually what you need.

I have never used a reseller account but from what I can see is that a reseller account is 4 to 5 times more expensive than the multisite hosting that Site5 offers. I assumed a reseller account was for those who were running a hosting site instead of running several personal sites.

But anyway. I'm new here and am enjoying the feedback and all the knowledge that is here. I hope to be a regular visitor and contributor to this board.

Whats the price range you're looking at? Also, the disk space and bandwidth you expect?

If you're looking for similar plans as Site5 in terms of resources then you'll keep getting that "support" they gave you.

In hosting, you get what you pay for.
