Lauren,

Double check with your webhost and see if they have an alternate smtp port available to utilize. It seems your ISP has port 25 blocked off (or perhaps a tight firewall/restrictive network) so you'll need to use another!

Make sure that you've enabled SMTP on an alternative port.
Are you using any specific control panel on your server?

If cpanel use the 'service manager' section within WHM to enable smtp on port 26.
If it is enabled on the server on an alternate port you're most likely experiencing a network issue -- somewhere between yourself and the server it's being blocked.

His idea would also be an exceptional option.

Since you already have Exim running on port 26... I take it you also changed the port in Outlook (?) from the default 25 to 26?

If so, what about running Exim off of port 52? Some providers are known to block port 26 in conjunction with 25.

What happens if you try and telnet to the mail server?

Start -> Run -> telnet mail.server.com 25

If you can't telnet from your PC, try logging into SSH on the server and telnetting to localhost on port 25 and 26. Have someone else try to duplicate the issue on another ISP.

It's possible that your ISP just began blocking port 25 & 26. Many block 25, which is why everyone also runs SMTP on port 26, but I've seen ISPs starting to block port 26 more and more these days.

but i can send from another email address thru this same isp.

ironically, i just discovered this only happens when mailing ONE client.

that client is a new client who is leaving their host to sign up with me.

he knows this and i wonder if he has anything to do with this at all.
