What a Customer can expect from their Host

Hostgator user here.
I've been experiencing a higher than normal number of emails being rejected by the receiving server. Its happened with aol accounts as well as others.
I'm afraid that I'm on a shared server that's been blacklisted.
When I requested that I be moved to another server, I received the following message;
"The server that you're on has reverse DNS configured correctly for it. You can see this as follows:
http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ptr.ch?ip=xx.xx.xx.xx
Have you contacted the administrators for the remote server to see if you can obtain any additional information about why this is occuring? It's possible that their servers are having some sort of DNS issue."

I also receive non-deliverable emails with non-existent addresses that are being rejected by others' servers. Obviously being sent by others.

Is it reasonable to expect that a server move would remedy these problems?
Any help is appreciated.

My advice would be to demand either a server move or a dedicated (clean) IP. Given the circumstances they shouldn't charge you for either.

What's the IP address of the server you are on? You can run it through DNSStuff's blacklist checker.

I'm second to support the recommendation in the post above.

If you buy a dedicated IP, it won't help you. The mails are being sent with the primary server IP.
Check if your IP is in a spamlist, if so, just mail hostgator with the details and they will do all they can to remove it from the list.

well it sounds like the ip your using is shared and basicly on a black list, it is a very poor way of thinking by the server not to sort this problem out for you, also the other users of the same ip, i think you should demard thay change your ip straight away and if not just more your site

Let's get something straight, it can happen to anybody even by mistake to get their IP blacklisted, I had a similar experience, just mail them and in 24 hours the IP will be clean (well, this happened to me ...).
