Confirmed, I cannot reach that site, though I was there last evening for the first time in a while.

    Very promising-
Anyone dabbled with a demo? Are there any available directly, or what is the route to go through to get a feel for this product?

What company is behind the scenes on this one?
    Is it a startup?

definately the one to wipe out the market....
The only thing I can say is WOW!! It is so powerful, it actually "wiped out" their own web site. This is definitely the one for me against ALL the others.

    you've seen & used a demonstration?
I see it probably clusters like no other, but can you give us an inkling of the bells & whistles that are unique which make it stand out to an extreme?

You are apparently pretty impressed with something- so you're either somehow one of the owners or developers in relation to HELM, or you must have seen something really, really good.

Can you share some details or point us towards a way to get a hold of a working demo?

Yes.....we're getting a pre install later this month...i have used the panel and its v. feature rich!

I see it probably clusters like no other, but can you give us an inkling of the bells & whistles that are unique which make it stand out to an extreme?
Any other winCP i've seen is just a linux port / hack, web IIS interface or worse, this has been written from scratch, is exceptionally fast and best of all totally scalable....

you can use access, SQL or MySQL as the control database,

you can rebuild a servers structure v.quiclky if it fails

you can snap in any number of servers simply by adding the IP address to the control server and telling it what the new server does....ie. mail, dns, frontpage, SQL server, coldfusion etc...

it has a fully integrated helpdesk and billing system

its distributed allowing an even number of sites over the web servers or it will let 1 user add to only 1 server making it easy to offer to dedicated clients

i'm sure theres stuff i've missed out but this is plenty to get anywhere near excited about.....

all the *market leaders* in windows panels offer is hacks and poor attempts at a true windows CP.....i think this changes that a bit!

You are apparently pretty impressed with something- so you're either somehow one of the owners or developers in relation to HELM, or you must have seen something really, really good.
no...not a shareholder unfortunately! just glad to see something finally around at a reasonable price that actually works properly!

I weighed it up this way...

It will run my company without having to change the way it already runs, and it costs less than livestats or imail..

Don't give up - your CP looks very impressive. Maybe slightly over priced for a single server solution, but very impressive nevertheless.

I think its a little overpriced for the Helm Standard
    Control Server USD$1000

Not sure how it works though.
So we finish the 18th and he's gonna stiff me. And I say, "Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know?" And he says, 'Oh, there won't be any money. But when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.' So I got that goin' for me, which is nice." --Bill Murray Caddyshack

I've been lucky enough to have a demo. I read somewhere else that they are putting a demo online closer to the release date. In a conversation I had they were also talking about trial versions too. I can't remember the details though.

    hostlead...

it would be hard to transfer over after that....

we're just starting a fresh with this, our current CP hostingcontroller will just be supported until everybody migrates over!

its going to be dependant on what you're doing longterm,

how many servers have you got?
how many do you expect to implement in the next 6 months?
are you going to cluster and use a master --> slave setup ( so to speak ) etc...

Hostingcontroller have a 30 day trial on their CP so you could get away with that for a while.....other than that i'd try to stay off for as long as possible....is adding manually an option for a while? ( or are you reselling ? )

    it's just 1 server.
I have no idea about the setup, since I'm not the one who will be doing it.
Doing everything manually could be a solution for the 2months..
but who is gonna guarantee me Helm is going to be great ( as you say) ? I really want to see a demo

Yea..fair enough, hard to take other peoples word for it....

we'll we've been looking for a new solution for about 2 years and this fits the bill nicely....it was worth the wait!

AFAIK a demo will be available later this month / next month, why dont you ask on their forum?

Seems an awful lot of hype to me based on a few not very clear screenshots, a not hugely detailed spec, a fairly vague release timescale and some fairly high prices. And there's no knowing how stable the whole thing is, and how it may or may not interfere with Windows...

Personally I'd think not just twice but numerous times before jumping in with a brand new untested product.

look at the hype over hostgui....lol...

i dont think you can get any clearer a timescale than 'september 2002', especially as the site has only been public a matter of weeks....

and i wouldnt call 2 years of testing 'untested'....

hmmm..actually, what are you on about????

    Jonny,

"September" -- when exactly? What day? It's July now.

"Untested" -- it's new on the market. Sure, they've been developing it for whatever timescale, but there's no substitute for actual real-world use. Beta tests are well and good, but (well just look at MS themselves!).

I have no beef with them, it's just that everyone seemed to be getting carried away with the thing when actually there is only a very small amount of info available and I think it's better to be cautious -- especially with something that's so intimately tied into the server.

Good luck to 'em and all, but I'll wait a good while and see what happens when real hosts start using it in anger. And a thousand quid buys a reasonable chunk of my time still

Hsphere isn't just a Linux hack.

you can use access, SQL or MySQL as the control database,
Access - no comment really, same goes for mySQL.

you can rebuild a servers structure v.quiclky if it fails

The same can be done in HSphere if you want.

All the same it does "sound" good, but at the moment that's all it does. Maybe when there is proof of the pudding then it'll be different.

Hsphere isn't just a Linux hack.
It is from a windows point of view!

Its not a windows control panel, just a linux one with a few bits of code written to 'interact' with windows.....

Access - no comment really, same goes for mySQL.
What do you mean the cotrol panel database backend can be in any of the above, at least its as cheap as you need it to be!
