Cheap server for Proxy Sites
Hi all,
I've recently launched three proxy sites and they are all on a 128mb vps...im maxing out and they have only been open 3 days.
I plan on doing some advertising and basically I really don't think a VPS will cut it.
Im after a low cost dedi (preferably a P4 -- don't like celeron's or sempron's) with around a gig of ram, and 1TB transfer p/m
I don't need a very big HDD and don't need a cp (although it would help).
I've been looking at a few of the budget LT plans at server4sale which look reasonable.
Has anyone got any suggestions for providers?
I don't need management either as I can do that myself.

watch out for bandwidth because proxy sites use a lot of bandwidth, so make sure yuo get from a datacenter that truly offers a lot of bandwidth

1-1.5TB should be enough, or even just a 10mbps unmetered line...surely.

I'm with S4S and I've had nothing but a positive experience. I think you should go with them.
(I have one of their Nocster servers though)Hello

I say find someone who's understanding when it comes to abuse cases.
Running proxies sites draws abuse more than anything, and then there's people that abuse it to whore off rapidshare, etc. 1TB will be burned through quick and going to LayeredTech or someone like that will just run you into the ground BW cost wise.
The only company i've worked with that is fair on abuse and gives a ton of bandwidth has been FDCServers. They got some deals on some 1Ghz P3's if that'll hold you. We've had countless abuse cases while with them due to our free webhosting, and they've been willing to work with us on all cases to make sure things are resolved quickly.

What do you do with proxy sites? Are those squid proxies or cgi proxies?
I mean what's the purpose of you running proxy sites?

I wanted to know because I am wondering how people make revenue from those proxies. So, I assume you just use cgi proxy or java based proxies and adsense?

I'm looking at maybe a 10mbps unmetered server now. I know HiVelocity were really poor about a year ago as I had a server with them...is this still the case?
Any recommendations for 10mbps servers?
