Suggest a Linux Host, please
Hi all,
I'm trying to find a good web hosting for my directory. Currently i'm on servint(VPS) but some people are saying that my directory is to slow.
Must have installed:
PHP 5.1.x
Mysql 5.0.xx
Cpanel
250MB of disk space
Dedicated IP

What is your budget? Any preference on server location?

If cPanel wasn't 100% necessary I'd recommend eApps.com for that budget.
Otherwise I think most hosts use MySQL 4 and PHP 4/5. If you check the offers section and email a few you like asking about PHP/MYSQL 5 that might be best.

Any idea of the amount of bandwidth you might need or the traffic you're expecting?
On a side note, your directory loads very fast for me. Any other reason that you're looking to change hosts?

No, is only because the speed. I'm in Portugal and the speed for me is very good.
I've received some complains about the speed.

then ideally you want to look for a european hosting company. Who also hosts their services within europe.

Do you know if the problem is caused because the server is overloaded? or just routing or connection problems?

Servint is an excellent provider. Try contacting them and having them optimize the VPS a bit further.

The server is not overloaded, maybe routing problems, I don't know.

Sounds like a routing issue. Do you know if these users are outside of the US?
You should ask them to do a tracert and see where the delay happens.
