Any Chance of Windows Only Section

Is there any chance of having a Windows only section of WHT for hosting, dedicated, VPS etc?

There's always a chance for WHT to expand to meet the demands of the industry.

I don't recall this ever coming up before though.
There is no best host. There is only the host that's best for you.

I don't either I am not sure we have enough windows hosts to create a separate forum at this stage.

Sounds like a petition is starting up . I'll get a few more Windows hosters to add their comments. Also check out the hosting section as a few people are asking for Windows specific hosting now. Even if WHT started with a separate forum for this that would be great.

Is there a particular reason why Windows discussions belong in their own set of forums? For some reason, it would seem silly to me to break out Windows, Linux, Debian, Sun, etc. into their own forum sets. Can't they all coexist, and thread starters can simply specify OS within their posts if necessary?

Windows hosting have their own set of problems, take for eg, Front Page problems alone can be a lot of headaches and issues to be discussed. ASP , ASP Net and the more recent Atlas and Microsoft efforts at collaboration tools such as integration of Exchange and Sharepoint puts it differently from Linux and Unix.

I would also love to see a Windows Only section.

Windows and Linux are two very different platforms.

Most Linux tips/problems dont apply to Windows, and vice versa.

Heres another vote for Windows Only section.

yah, that would be silly to do ALL of those, but I believe windows/*nix are two major choices for hosting each with its own challenges.

Windows does not use "cpanel", have cron jobs, htaccess or php (although it CAN, just is better suited for other things) uses MSSQL instead of MySQL, which in itself has a lot more flexibility, power and security...therefore different issues.

The customer base is a different type of customer, cpanel hosting has become commoditized to a few dollars a month for ridiculous amounts of space and bandwidth...whereas windows hosting customers HAPPILY pay 40-200 a month for a shared hosting plan.

I could go on and on, but I only have about 9-10 years of windows hosting experience (only the last 4 as a dedicated server owner), I am sure people like Mark and others know10 times as much about potential challenges, their solutions and tips/strategies.

My point is simply, I do belive there is ENOUGH people who would appreciate windows-only "shop talk"

    ....j/k

I think they get the point...its probably a matter of them just finding the time to do it now.

Of course you know, we have to make sure we post regularly or they will put our heads on the chopping block

Why don't you guys just be more specific in your topic titles? I don't see the need for platform-specific forums.

Windows does need its own forum. Tired of digging through forums to find items that apply to me and my Windows hosting environment.
