Need a good windows VPS for 40-60 a month with the best features i can find. I've been burned by an oversold VPSLAND machine. Would like plesk or helm included if it will run smoothly. Does anyone know a good company? It's so hard to do google searches on this stuff as people flood their sites with VPS, but most people are selling linux VPS's.

I just got a VPSLAND server-
I would say that it is essentially unusable.
I've got 640 MB RAM which isn't the issue, but the processor is pegged at 90%+ at all times...spending a fair amount of time at 99-100%.
I can't figure out what the server would be useful for, but it is worthless for hosting a website.
I'm glad I didn't have to sign-up for an extended contract...so I'm only out for one month of service.

A friend of mine has had serious issues with a VPSLAND VPS, network outages, control panel breaking, random crashes, etc.

Just some advice about Helm and Plesk:
If you want to go with Helm 4, make sure to get a VPS with at least 384mb RAM (and make sure the host assigns at least 512mb ram during the initial installation - as during the installation 384mb won't be enough). For normal usage after the installation, 384mb is sufficient. Don't get a VPS with 256mb with Helm 4, that simply won't work out.
Regarding Plesk: ask the host whether they can setup version 8.1 (the latest version). It'll run fine on 256mb and the functionality (compared to 7.5) is awesome.
As for the processor being at 90% all the time with your old VPS: that can usually only mean 2 things:
- One of the VPS's on that server is exploited and running hacks
- There's a hardware problem
- The server is way overcrowded
In the first 2 scenarios, they should be able to fix it (if they put some effort into it). In that last case it's very unlikely they'll do something about it.
Either way, with 90% constant CPU usage on a Windows VPS node, things are going to lag all the time, no matter what you use it for.

GoDaddy has not appeared to be very professional when handling support for VPS customers.
I suggest you try somewhere else like solarvps.com

I would recommend solarvps too, their support is really excellent. Both on their forums and their ticket system. I'm not having a good month this month with them stability wise with almost 13% downtime as reported by siteuptime.com;

If you want more reliable uptime than this then you'll probably need to look at a host using MS Virtual Server such as RackSpace;

If you're up for stability, performance and uptime without having to worry if your host is overselling, seek for a Microsoft Virtual Server based VPS.

Thanks brashquido,
It should be noted that the recent downtime was the result of a user installing "Paragon Encrypted Disk 3.0" software into his VPS. First of all, Windows Virtuozzo is not compatible with disk encryption software. Second, this particular software causes the entire node to crash if installed.
Word of advice to other customers and providers, avoid this piece of software like the plague!
That being said, the majority of our Windows customers are at 100% uptime this month. brashquido, you have the unfortunate luck of being on the same node that the Paragon software was installed on. Also, that problem has been neutralized so no further service interruptions should take place on this node.
Thanks.

Hey Ross,
Thanks for that update. Is there anywhere I (or other Virtuozzo users) can look up a list of what software/technologies are not Virtuozzo compatible? I didn't mean to suggest your service was unreliable either, as in December I had an uptime of 99.946% which I was very happy with. This isn't just VPS uptime either, this is the uptime of everything needed to run my websites (MySQL, IIS, PHP, etc).
As you said it was just bad luck for me that my VPS was on the same node as the offending software was installed on. This is what I was getting at with the reliability comment, and the difference between the technology used in Virtuozzo and MS Virtual Server. MS Virtual Server uses hardware virtualisation where Virtuozzo uses software virtualisation.

No worries man. It was important both to point out the different virtualization technologies used as well as the reasons for the service interruption. Both posts should help educate people when it comes to choosing a Windows VPS and what not to install into Virtuozzo.
Along the lines of hardware vs. software based virtualization, it should be known that SWsoft is quite interested and invested in hardware based virtualization technology. Have a look at the URL below. I don't doubt that we will soon see some really amazing things showing up inside of Windows Virtuozzo, along with much greater stability. When you consider future version releases including the rumored Version 4 just around the corner, combined with the lower cost of Windows Virtuozzo, I think its future is very bright in the Windows hosting market.
