Video website?

I want to know if I can make a video website (streaming and downloading) on godaddy or 1and1.
because I heared that no hosting company will accept these kinds of sites that videos will make too much pressure on their servers.
and by the way I donot have enough money to buy a server for this site.
pleas answer me is it possible to make such website on one of these companies?
if not which company can accept it?

Videos don't put "stress" on a server. They are static files.

Depending on number of hits & overall throughput, the shared hosts you mentioned should be able to accommodate you.

I suggest you ask them.
I'm pretty sure both companies have some kind of pre-sales support.

it would not be a problem, depends on the number of hits you get.
also consider single stream download speed of your host if you are considering video streaming sites.

You will definetly need to find a host that supports streaming (if thats what your doing) otherwise even many people are downloading large video files it can definetly put a large load on Apache, hence crashing shared servers. You may need to bite the bullet and go VPS at least...

as above, shared hosting is not the way to go. Best to have a dedicated if you can afford it.

but can i go to sharing first and then go dedicated.
Do you know where I could get good dedicated hosting with high bandwidth around $500. Ill be streaming quicktime videos, mostly anime episodes.

I have my eyes sight on dreamhost dedicated, godaddy ( watchanimeonline and narutofan is getting their service from). I was also considering softlayer.

me personally, with that budget, would just go directly in with a dedicated box with an unlimited port for that kind of budget. You could probably get it managed for that price also. That way theres no messy switching boxes when the site becomes popular.
